TTT, below median 1L, just had interview w/ solo, taking Qs
They said it couldn't be done ITE, but I'm about to land a 1L summer gig (slightly) below median at a TTT. Taking Q's on how I accomplished it.

Never in my life did I think I'd see someone bragging about getting on with a solo for a 1L gig. Are you being paid?

Are you prepared to give out free Westlaw against your terms of use?

Hey, ITE is a crazy world. If I get the gig, which I think I will, then I will not be paid. Although, she did mention that if my works contribute revenue there is a chance of receiving part of that profit at the end of the summer. Also, she has an open mind about hiring her intern(s) for full time employment in the future.

I was asked during the interview if I had a Westlaw account. I thought it was fishy. I would never do that though, or would I?rad law wrote:Are you prepared to give out free Westlaw against your terms of use?

So, let me see if I get this straight
You are bragging about the fact that a solo practioner is *considering* letting you work for her for free so that she can use your westlaw account? As in, she hasn't even decided yet?
Additional question: is this what you had in mind when you decided you wanted to go to law school?

I assume this violates honor code? What is the credited route here? I do not want to compromise my morals this early in my career. On the other hand, I will not have a career without summer employment. Sometimes you have to do bad if you want to do good. It is like when James Vanderbeek hit the mascot with the football in Varsity Blues in order to rally his team.. but I digress. What is prudent here?

If you're going to go ahead and do it, it would have been prudent not to post about it on an internet forum.nyknicks wrote:I assume this violates honor code? What is the credited route here? 1) I am not bragging. I am sharing information to help those in a similar situation.Nicholasnickynic wrote:So, let me see if I get this straight
You are bragging about the fact that you may be hired by a solo practitioner looking to use you for your westlaw account?
As in, she hasn't even hired you yet. And even if she does, so its so she can use your westlaw account for free?
Additional question: Is this what you had in mind when you decided to go to law school?
2) We dont not know if it is because of my westlaw account. If it is, fine. We are all used in life. Some because of looks, others for money. What is the difference here?
3) Career services lied to me. I thought I would be making 6 figures upon graduation. Now I know I have to grind, but so be it. I love the law. I do not regret my decision.

So it is definitely against the honor code?Adjudicator wrote:If you're going to go ahead and do it, it would have been prudent not to post about it on an internet forum.nyknicks wrote:I assume this violates honor code? Frankly, I was hoping for more pointed questions.romothesavior wrote:How did you accomplish it?nyknicks wrote:Taking Q's on how I accomplished it.
However, here was the general guideline.
1) I know my target and my limitations.. solos in my home area.
2) I mass mailed ALL OF THEM.
3) I followed up with phone calls.
4) I followed up with more phone calls.
5) I bought suit. Two button/charcoal. White shirt. Red/White/Blue striped tie. American Flag Pin.
6) I got a haircut
7) I had answers for 1) why law 2) why personal injury 3) why with this attorney.

9) I shaved
10) I smiled and made eye contact the entire time
11) Firm hand shake at the end, with eye contact.
12) (Future Step) Follow up with phone call.

Fixed that for you.
