What do you plan to make?
I was just wondering what area everyone lived in and what you would like to make (realistically) after law school.
I will go first...
Kansas...$90-100k/yr.

NJ. If I can keep my grades where they are right now, then I should stand a pretty good chance at one of the larger NJ firms, which pay about 125K.jared6180 wrote:I was just wondering what area everyone lived in and what you would like to make (realistically) after law school.

Re: What do you plan to make?
I'm thinking about going to GW or BU, leaning toward BU at the moment, and would pretty much be paying the whole CoA with loans. Only way to justify that is to go for biglaw, so I'm planning on about 150k I guess as a first year associate.

LOL I guess speculating about things like this is fun?jared6180 wrote:I will be 35 when I graduate, I am a sophomore in my undergrad currently. My hope is that I plan well and coordinate my classes well enough so that I have time to work at a firm part time, and get Summer Associate jobs while on break from school.

So you're planning to graduate top 5 from your class at KU and work at foulston? That's the only way I foresee making that much in Kansas.jared6180 wrote:I was just wondering what area everyone lived in and what you would like to make (realistically) after law school.

Foulston does look like a good place with a location in my hometown, that would be good, but I am pretty open about where I go right now, just want to stay somewhere between Wichita, KS and Kansas City, MO for the next 11 years until my daughter turns 18.
I started out wanting to do BigLaw in NYC, but for my situation it is pretty impractical, and by the time I am able to move from this region I will likely be to old to be considered by NYC BigLaw, I try to be realistic about my expectations.

I don't plan on graduating law school.
I'm going to drop out half way through and join the circus like my other friends who went to law school.
They make 80k to start.
CIRCUSECURE.

Lol, you plan to be at the very top of your class, thats a reasonable way of making decisions. . .jared6180 wrote:I was just wondering what area everyone lived in and what you would like to make (realistically) after law school.

Penn: 115-175 all in if things go according to plan.
Edit: Actually, I'd probably say 50-50 shot at the 115-175 (market paying biglaw, different markets), Maybe 10% shot at 80-90 if I miss that, 30% shot at 40-50 if I miss that, 10% chance at not being able to get a job in law.
I think that makes my expected value about 90k, discounted 20k a year for loans makes it 70k.

I like how everyone at a T-14 assumes biglaw. Although TBF, NYU might be safe again by the time you go thru OCI.thecilent wrote:160-200k first year

I'm confused. Does BigLaw refer to the size of the firm or the size of the salary?Veyron wrote:I like how everyone at a T-14 assumes biglaw. Although TBF, NYU might be safe again by the time you go thru OCI.thecilent wrote:160-200k first year

NY to 190? Or 1st-year bonuses to $40k? Or blatant Wachtel/Boies/some-other-boutique-trolling?thecilent wrote:160-200k first year

First years made 205 all in with the special bonus during boomtimes. V shaped recovery?NY to 190? Or 1st-year bonuses to $40k? Or blatant Wachtel/Boies/some-other-boutique-trolling?
Either way, lolwut?
P.S. DAMN that pisses me off, a few years ago I would have had a 85-90% chance of making over 200K as a first year. Just had to wait to have kids, did you mom?
