Aggressive Interviewers
what do you make of interviewers who seemingly hate you and have no problem showing it from the minute you walk through the door?
I recently had an interview where the person was being really condescending and outright rude. I am not a pro at interviewing by any means..I am very new to this. And this person's attitude completely destroyed any confidence I had going in and I am 99% sure my chance at that internship is gone.

Just don't let it shake you and make sure you make your points. Either you walked in and didn't have the job in which case it's already over or they're testing you and you need to stay on top of your game.Anonymous User wrote:what do you make of interviewers who seemingly hate you and have no problem showing it from the minute you walk through the door?

well it was a second interview--final round of narrowing the candidates. I did really badly-got all flustered.

What exactly did the interviewer say that was offensive to you?

I'll let you know after I find out decisions are made haha.Black-Blue wrote:What exactly did the interviewer say that was offensive to you?
but over all, when someone is being condescending and rude..and overall trying to make you look stupid, its quite obvious. This isnt one of those "maybe you took it the wrong way?" kind of things..like there were facial expressions and everything to go along with the words.

Re: Aggressive Interviewers
Some people have a very aggressive style of interviewing and treat them as a sort of litmus test to see if someone can withstand the pressure. This seems like a common tactic in i-bank interviews. I have always hated conducting interviews this way, but perhaps it is a sign that you might not want to work for the firm where you had this interview.Anonymous User wrote:what do you make of interviewers who seemingly hate you and have no problem showing it from the minute you walk through the door?

I would think that it's usually not obvious. Maybe he was just trying to challenge your interviewing skills, or maybe he had a really stressful day.Anonymous User wrote:but over all, when someone is being condescending and rude..

I have heard from judges and hiring attorneys at big firms that they often include a hostile interview during the process to see how you react in difficult situations.

One of my favorite interview questions ever (sarcasm here) was "so, do you think goods grades mean you will be a good lawyer?" I was first in my class.......

this was for a judge, so I am hoping thats what was happening and I passed their little "test" but I got really flustered and probably sounded like a blathering idiot. pretty sure thats not the reaction they were hoping for.Anonymous User wrote:I have heard from judges and hiring attorneys at big firms that they often include a hostile interview during the process to see how you react in difficult situations.

Re: Aggressive Interviewers
I was very taken aback, to be honest. I totally fumbled the answer. I came up with something like, "no, but it evidences at least a certain amount of intelligence and a strong work ethic...you could have the best grades and still not be an effective attorney, that's why work experience is so important...." or something lame like that. He was all over me the whole time and I later found out that he is quite the jokester and like riling people for the heck of it, haha.goosey wrote:A'nold wrote:One of my favorite interview questions ever (sarcasm here) was "so, do you think goods grades mean you will be a good lawyer?"
