V10 firms and 2L grades

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Dec 21, 2010 11:13 pm

Which V10 firms ask for 2L grades when considering whether to make a full-time offer?

Cleary tells recruits outright that they don't consider grades for making offers. I'm not sure about the others but I know they at least ask for grades. Judging by the close to 100% offer rates at these firms it's hard to believe they consider grades that much.

OTOH, doesn't seem that likely that top 5% types will suddenly lose their edge in 2L.

I've spoken a number of people that have fallen from top of the class to top quarter or third and still received offers. I guess all of this is speculative but I don't think there is a lot to worry about.

What about say - if you're a transfer who doesn't do so well at your new school?

is it 1l again for transfers? it can't be as hard to keep a big law offer as it is to receive one.

fair, but with these offer rates of close to 100%, I think it's yours to lose.

I totally hope so. I just don't want my grades to be the reason I lose it.

Common sense says that if firms had the mentality that transfers still had to "prove" themselves, they wouldn't summer them in the first place.

Common sense also says that anyone with an ivysaur avatar is a straight-up badass. Let's hope, for both our sakes, common sense prevails.

Yeah, in my experience, they really don't. The people who were at the top of my class at the start of 2L were mostly there at the end of 3L, at least as far as I could tell. The lone exception might be the person who becomes EIC of the LR, and thus loses his/her life and study time in the process.
But there are also a lot of top 10%, top 25%, etc. folks at V10s. They might even outnumber the top 5% people at some V10s.

If you think about it, the top-25% people necessarily outnumber the top-5% people at ANY firm...
