Should I choose ADA position or Insurance Defense firm?

Post by mobilelawoffice » Mon Dec 06, 2010 4:10 am

I just passed the NY bar and have the option of being an ADA or starting at an insurance defense firm. I have low debt <$35K.

Which do you think is a better choice and why? Both are in the NYC area.

This.

The question seems kinda fishy, these are REALLY different options. If you want my $0.02, given how little ID pays and how little people seem to like it, and how high job satisfaction is among ADAs (compared to other types of lawyers), this one is a no brainer.

Yeah, I think ADA all the way. I would be bored to tears doing low-end ID work.

This is not a spam/flame topic. These are actually my two choices/offers Ive received. Any objective input available would help. What kind of prospects would each realistically lead to. Have to choose soon.

As a 2L with obviously no firsthand practical knowledge -- what I've heard is that ID only leads to more ID, while a position as an ADA can lead to private criminal defense or in some cases civil litigation positions at smaller firms

I would take the ada gig. As others have said, I have heard that ID leads to more ID. There is no reason y u couldn't do ID after working as an ADA if u wanted. It would be tough to do the opposite.
