Latham NY vs. Shearman NY

Leaning toward litigation but not sure. Liked the people equally at both places. Concerned mainly with job security.

Latham. By a landslide.

Shearman has a very capable litigation shop, but will always be handicapped by the small size. As such, your career choices as a litigator will inevitably be constrained by the clients who walk in the door. Latham has an eminent and broad litigation practice that you really can’t go wrong with.

Job security is certainly important, but I suspect that it won’t be nearly as much of a concern given that a lot of NY firms (including Latham, if I remember correctly) are hiring 3Ls to make up for their overly conservative summer class sizes last year.
