Do grades matter after securing a SA?
2L at lower T14 with median GPA. Thankfully, I secured a V50 SA for next summer. How much weight will the firm place on my 2L grades in making a full-time offer after the summer?
I have no plans of clerking and no issue finishing law school with median grades. To be perfectly honest, I want to the bare minimum work from now on. So...say I get straight B's from now on - will this harm my chances of a post-summer offer?

A few firms request an updated transcript, so presumably grades matter at those firms. Most firms, however, don't care too much. That said, to prepare for the unlikely event that you don't receive a full-time offer, you probably don't want to slack off too much.

Yes. You are not going to spend your career at the firm you start with, and your grades are going to follow you forever.

One of my offer letters, from a NY V40, specifically said 2L grades were a large factor in offer/no-offer. Not happy.

God forbid you actually have to not suck in 2L.Anonymous User wrote:One of my offer letters, from a NY V40, specifically said 2L grades were a large factor in offer/no-offer. Not happy.
At least it's "one of" the letters, so you can go to another firm.

OP here. I think my offer letter said something similar, basically saying you still had to meet their "hiring requirements", grades being one of them. But since they already hired me for a SA with my median grades, staying median or even dropping a little probably won't hurt that much, right?Anonymous User wrote:One of my offer letters, from a NY V40, specifically said 2L grades were a large factor in offer/no-offer. a firm is going to care whether an attorney with 7 years' experience had a 3.2 or 3.4 law school gpa?Renzo wrote:Yes. You are not going to spend your career at the firm you start with, and your grades are going to follow you forever.

Didn't mean it to seem quite as snarky as you have. And I don't plan on sucking. But I also don't plan on out-gunning the personality-less law review gunners who struck out at OCI and are now eyeing clerkships (and the grades they require) as their only remaining hope.ToTransferOrNot wrote:God forbid you actually have to not suck in 2L.Anonymous User wrote:One of my offer letters, from a NY V40, specifically said 2L grades were a large factor in offer/no-offer. What about lateral options for someone who makes partner at a mid-sized (~150 attorneys) and with ~8 years' experience?

Oh, Christ. I'm going to have to suffer 3-5 years at a sweatshop shitshow to transfer to a hometown firm?NYAssociate wrote:From what I know, years 3-5 are the sweet spot.
