What firm is best - Latham (NY), Jones Day (NY), clifford chance (NY), or Kirkland + Ellis (LA)?

Any concerns based on Latham's recent history?

I am facing a similar decision between Latham and clifford chance, and I think I like Latham more (but that's solely because I know people personally at Latham, and not clifford chance, and those I know at Latham enjoy working there).

As an aside, how long after the JD callback did you receive an offer?

I'm generally for Jones Day, but here I think Latham's the better choice. Better pay in NY, same hours, and I wouldn't be too concerned about the recent layoffs--seems like such a drastic cut puts them in a better position so they won't have to do it again.

Of course, this could be totally wrong. Just my dumb, quasi-informed opinion.

Which K&E? Chicago? The DC office is IN TENTS, but I'm a fan of Chicago.

Definitely Latham NY. Jones Day and clifford chance are both hellholes in NYC. As for K&E, which office? I'd take Latham NY over basically all of them, unless you don't want to be in NY...

Tough choice. I think CC is out though.

They're a solid organization nationally and at many of their individual offices, but I've heard some bad things about their NYC office (thought it was typical NY BIGLAW bs though). All the folks I've met from there seem to be pretty solid people.

LA office isn't doing so well, unless you want to do IP litigation and work alongside Krupka. Bankruptcy group disbanded to Jones Day LA a few years ago (though there is a rumor that they weren't really wanted at the firm). I think it was K&E's only office established by merger.

I like Magic Circle firms, but I agree that CC is the least of these options. The other three seem pretty comparable. Good luck deciding!

I know I'm just a worthless 1L, but Latham has made it to Urbandictionary.com ...that should be cause for concern.

Who are these Latham trolls that would take Latham over Ambulance Chaser LLP?

Clifford and Latham are toilet firms.

Not really. ANYONE can put a definition on Urbandictionary.com. Want me to go put something on there about the others?

Don't know about the others, but I'm a smart, experienced, NY attorney. Who are you?

Go to K&E! To be fair, I just accepted my offer there, so I'm biased. :)

For what its worth (probably not much), the AmLaw survey of summer associates released today ranks them as follows: clifford chance - 22, K+E - 50, Latham - 62, Jones Day - 66.

Do you have a link to where this is? Very interesting in reading it, albeit for different firms. Thanks!
