I would advise anyone with offers from either of these to not accept them. The success of mergers is prefaced on employee layoffs to increase efficiencies. Expect massive layoffs but greater per partner profits, YAY!

Neither of these needed to be anonymous.

I wonder if the merged firm would follow lockstep or the Orrick model.

I'm not sure all the doom and gloom is necessary. This possible merger could leave the firm in a very strong position, with a HUGE presence. But, notably, I don't know much about how law firm mergers work, and what the repercussions could be. I did interview with Akin, and liked them. I also know people who interviewed with Orrick and liked them as well.

The article suggests that Orrick is a bit of a merger tease. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Wasn't planning on it. I'm not going to either of these firms, but I did find the article interesting and figured many people on here might have an interest.

Wow, I was on the verge of accepting an offer from Orrick NYC. Not quite sure what to think now.
