Those of you in the bottom 25% at a T14...
How are we doing? Does anyone have an offer?
I struck out at OCI (unsurprisingly so) and am currently mass mailing.
Really would like to see if there's any hope at all.

I can't say for sure that I'm in the bottom 25% but I did get horrendous grades like multiple B-s. I also did not research beyond Chambers because I didn't know how, simply could not interview very well due to nerves but did get an offer from OCI. I think it's all based on luck - I don't think I was lucky because I only got one callback but lucky in that at least one interviewer/firm liked my personality.

Oh wow. Congratulations. I did manage to get a couple callbacks as well but they didn't turn into offers. Seems as though my grades didn't make it past some members of the hiring committee who didn't meet me in person.

Multiple B- CCNer here. Got 10 CBs (cancelled 4 after my first offer). 3 offers so far (V50s and V100), 1 hold pile (was called to tell me I was in hold pile V40s), 1 reject (V50s), 1 no word at all even though my CB was well over a month ago (V40s).

This is me. I interviewed from V3-V100. The CBs I got were in the V30s-V100 range. The offer ranges are listed above.

OP here. I targeted V50-V100 that historically placed less emphasis on grades. Callbacks from V90 range. I'm now mass mailing small firms on Martindale.Anonymous User wrote:Oh wow. Congratulations. CCN student here. Below Median. 5 CB's, 0 offers.
What matters the most is the market you target. Chicago/DC are very difficult if you're below median. Everywhere else, grades matter significantly less.

In the interest of pursuing precise language, are you in the bottom quarter?Anonymous User wrote:Multiple B- CCNer here. If so you did very well, even for CCN, do you feel you interview well?Kohinoor wrote:In the interest of pursuing precise language, are you in the bottom quarter?Anonymous User wrote:Multiple B- CCNer here. Hmmm. I would argue that NYC and LA are just as hard as Chicago, if not more so...Anonymous User wrote:CCN student here. Below Median. 5 CB's, 0 offers.

20 screening interviews; 2 CBs for V50-100 firms....butttt I haven't heard from either of them in +10 days so I'm thinking that's a NO (especially as one of the firms had asked for my transcript post-screening interview so each interviewer could have a copy). sigh.

HYS, fairly bad grades (all P's). For OCI, bid a range of V100's plus some non-ranked regionals where I had ties. 23 screening interviews (n.b. our school doesn't let employers prescreen,) 0 callbacks. Started mass-mailing early this month, no word yet.

Anyone in this position had any luck in DC? Or is that market basically foreclosed by grades?

I don't know where I am. I don't even know how to determine that. I do know that I'd need an A, A- or two to offset the multiple B-'s. I don't have any of those. I can't imagine I'm even sitting at 3.0 at this point, much less above it.jt1341 wrote:If so you did very well, even for CCN, do you feel you interview well?Kohinoor wrote:In the interest of pursuing precise language, are you in the bottom quarter?Anonymous User wrote:Multiple B- CCNer here. To pre-empt the question, I am not AA. I do, however, interview very well.

You know, you could calculate your GPA and find out if you were above or below 3.0...Anonymous User wrote:I don't know where I am. I don't even know how to determine that. But, I don't actually care what it is. If I cared about grades, I wouldn't be in a position to have such poor grades in the first place.rayiner wrote:

So, you were determined enough to get yourself into CCN, but are such a laid back person that you don't care about grades, but your incredible interview skills managed to cover up this apathy to the tune of double digit callbacks with a sub 3 GPA

Either you're a flame, or you have something beyond belief incredible on your resume.

Re: Those of you in the bottom 25% at a T14...
1. Not listened to Career Services, nor the regional recruiters they set me up with. I was told that Munger Tolles and Irell Manella were probably a bad bet with my transcript, but that MoFo or Latham should be doable. Then I talked to a Quinn Emanuel SA who told me that EIP was all about grades (granted, he was at Quinn.) I think he knew better what he was talking about.ConMan345 wrote:Oof, sorry to hear that. Of course, I didn't bid stupid--Career Services provided this list of underrepresented firms that were touted as more widely accessible, and I worked heavily off that. Still, no dice.
2. Not focused so much on California, even if it is my home state and only significant tie. I keep hearing that New York was relatively easy this year. Not the message I got from Career Services beforehand--they said that New York had been hardest hit by the recession due to its focus on finance, and besides everybody from my school was bidding there. See point 1, supra.
3. Sent out outside-OCI applications earlier. Other people here have been successful sending stuff out as early as May. And I thought I was hot shit for reading Guerrilla Tactics and Nail Your Law Job Interview over the summer.
...I do think Guerrilla Tactics is a good book, though, and without it I'm sure I would've done worse. Somehow. Like, maybe involving spontaneous combustion or something.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
