Re: TX Market, V&E Houston v. Baker Botts Houston with a caveat
Do you have a BB Dallas offer in hand?
It's interesting. I would take BB Dallas over V&E Dallas, but V&E Houston over BB Houston.

I'd love to know why those that voted chose what they did.
Also, I'd love any thoughts you had about the choice.

Re: TX Market, V&E Houston v. Baker Botts Houston with a caveat
I voted for the split. I loved the V&E Houston office, and got an offer from them as well. To make matters worse, I actually really didn't like the BB Houston office (liked the people, just not the office or the mood there) and got a quick ding post-cb. However, I probably would have taken a split between BB offices in Dallas and Houston, b/c (1) I like Dallas, (2) I like options, (3) I hear the BB Dallas office is better, and (4) I like having more than 2 hours to figure out if I want to work in a particular office. Of course, if there is even a HINT of doubt that you might not be able to split w/ Dallas for BB, go with V&E. They have a great thing going there, if you want to be in Houston.

I enjoyed my interview with V&E (even though it was the Austin office) much better than BB (though, once again, in Austin). The V&E folks, overall, seemed less stuffy. I know the offices all feel different but that affected my general view of the firm. Additionally, V&E just seems like it is in a much better financial situation than BB. In the event of a 50/50 decision, I would go for the stable choice.

Well, no wonder this is such a tough decision, even TLS is split.

Depends on your personality. V&E has a reputation for being more social and laid-back, and as a summer there, you will be going to constant cocktail parties and lunches and gatherings. I didn't summer at BB, but it has a reputation for being more closed-door and formal, with less emphasis on the social stuff.

I choose Houston just because I like living here better than Dallas.

Yes, but the OP would be working in Houston either way.happy187 wrote:I choose Houston just because I like living here better than Dallas.

Indeed. I would have at least half my summer in Houston either way, but with BB I would also be able to do half my summer in Dallas, assuming I get that offer.Anonymous User wrote:Yes, but the OP would be working in Houston either way.happy187 wrote:I choose Houston just because I like living here better than Dallas.

OP here... this will probably be the last time I bump this. I'm still interested in why people voted the way they did.

Re: V&E Houston v. Baker Botts Houston, now w/ 50% more options!
OP here... so I lied about that being my last bump. New option so a new bump to my post.
