They don't call it the Leaning Tower of Pisa for nothing. Morale is shot after their rounds of layoffs and they "consolidated" two LA offices. I hope you're looking on the East Coast.

I don't know if that's fair, morale took a hit with all the layoffs. On the upside in a couple years it'll be fine...because no associates will be there (attrition) from the layoff days!

Goodwin's financial year end is 9/31 so their numbers should be known soon.

Goodwin Procter Boston. I have an offer there. Does anyone know if the morale is good? Is this a place people like to work?

From what I've heard people generally like to work there (relative to other firms), but I don't know anything about morale.

From talking to the younger folks in the Boston office it seems like there is a TON of work right now, at least in litigation. There corporate department is a lot slower maybe even compared to other corporate departments in the city, say Ropes and Wilmer e.g. And some of the corporate folks are doing a little bit of lit work right now because lit is so busy. BUT, the morale seems quite high and no fear of more layoffs or anything like that. It seems like the problem was solved with the stealth layoffs they did last year, and the people left over are content if not happy. I talked to a couple of last years Boston summers, and I believe everyone was offered, at least they didn't know of anyone who wasn't. Also all the deferred associates have started or are starting soon and last summer's class will not be deferred. I read the abovethelaw articles on how morale is shot too, but that does not seem to jive with the attitude today. Then again, I've pretty much decided on GP already, so maybe I'm biased. I can't speak at all to any of the satellite offices. I genuinely enjoyed talking to everyone I met there - a serious firm with serious clients that just don't take themselves that seriously. Definitely the most relaxed of the Boston big 3.
edit: anyone with offers can pm me if you want. I've talked to a lot of people there.
