Ropes & Gray NY?
Any offers or dings to report? How long has it been taking people to hear back from them? I did a callback recently and am wondering if its time to get worried even though I thought it went very welll...

Has anyone received an email inquiring about your interest, other offers, etc.?

Has anyone accepted here? Know anything about class size? Are they still making offers or did they just never make any?

At least three "hold" candidates at my school got offers in early October. None accepted.

I get the feeling R&G NY is in trouble.

By "trouble" do you mean something other than a minor recruiting hiccup? What's wrong with the firm?pasteurizedmilk wrote:I get the feeling R&G NY is in trouble.

Been seeing some of this across the internet. I'd love to hear anyone provide a specific anecdote or even specific speculation of what sort of trouble they're in.Anonymous User wrote:By "trouble" do you mean something other than a minor recruiting hiccup? I really would love to hear what people think is wrong with Ropes and Gray NY. No one has substantiated a single claim. I know many people at my school (CCN) who got offers and many who took them. I think their recruiting is just done (or near done). The summer class is 30-35. Just bc you have not gotten an offer from them does not mean that something is wrong...

You can't assume that lack of evidence for a contrary position demonstrably proves the position you uphold. I personally can say I've heard bad information from insiders. I would say it here, but at this point in the game anonymous posting doesn't help much. I could risk outing the insider.I really would love to hear what people think is wrong with Ropes and Gray NY. Anyways, if Ropes NY is the best option you have, take it. But there are many other firms in NYC that are worth taking above it if you have the option.

Good friend of mine at the Boston office reports similar things re: NY office.
Any word on the deferalls there? Still a large backlog of incomign JAs?

What? Saying that you also heard bad things does not change the lack of actual data on what these bad things are! I am not saying that I have proven there aren't bad things about the office, I am saying NO ONE HAS ACTUALLY IDENTIFIED A SINGLE COMPLAINT. Amazing.

Re: Ropes & Gray NY?
Part of it is probably all the deferrals. Firms that have a lot of work aren't deferring associates. Do you know what the backlog looks like right now? I don't, but you should if you're considering an offer there.
Part of it is that the NY office (from my limited understanding, since I didn't have much interest in accepting my offer there) relies somewhat heavily on P/E, which is a bad rack to hang your hat on when there's little PE work out there right now and most of it is being sucked up by the better firms (like STB and co.)

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
