Latham. Ropes DC isn't one of their big offices. Akin is, well, Akin. Latham will have much better work.

definitely Latham. one of the top two or three appellate law firms in the country (if that's your thing) and by far the best corp practice in DC (if it isn't).

what are the arguments for ropes? i liked the people at ropes but it did bother me how small the office was... (only 1 floor of the building too)

I think the argument for ropes is that they have a great culture and consistently top associate satisaction rankings. That said, Latham is probably a better/stronger DC practice all around.Anonymous User wrote:what are the arguments for ropes? i liked the people at ropes but it did bother me how small the office was... I think it really comes down to what you value more - the strength of the office or a more humane work environment.

You should be exclusively thinking about exit options. You are not going to be there very long at either Latham or Ropes given the difficult road to partnership at either. Exit options are all that matters. What practice group are you most interested in and where do you envision yourself going once you leave the firm? THIS is what matters. You'll probably be at either firm for 3-5 years max.

Ropes. You'll be happier (slightly).
