How Many Callbacks Before One Can Feel Safe?
At what point do you think one can safely expect an offer?... and not worry about other options (e.g. mailings and other sectors)?

If I have 7 callbacks, should I apply for other stuff?

You aren't safe until you have at least one offer in your hand from a place you would feel comfortable working at.

This question is fucking stupid. It's like asking how many miles one can drive until they feel safe they won't get hit and killed by a drunk driver.addicted wrote:Doing what wrong?Zugzwang wrote:You're doing it wrong.

Nah, it's like, "how much money do I have to spend on groceries until I can be sure I'm not hungry."Anonymous User wrote:This question is fucking stupid. I did (mass mailing). Then, I got an offer, and I stopped. I was anxious until that first offer.

I think 10 is the most number of CBs I've heard of people going on w/o an offer, and I've heard of lots of people who got exactly 1 CB and 1 offer.
But the question is dumb. An offer should make you feel safe, and nothing else. Realistically if you have 15-20+ CBs maybe it's time to start scheduling some in times you expect to cancel after getting offers from earlier CBs, but you can never be "safe." Each callback is a brand new opportunity to shoot yourself in the foot

totally firm and applicant dependent. I knew after a screening interview with a certain firm that it was destiny. Got the callback that night, scheduled it for right after oci ended and got the offer. Other firms, like certain callback-happy v5's that backload personality fit, on the other hand, probably aren't as safe to bet the family ranch on.

A callback with a convincing "safety" coupled with lack of extreme social retardation and decent preparedness should make you feel comfortable, but I know people who have blown these interviews.

IMO being a strong interviewer (and not socially retarded) plus being called back at a "safety" is STILL not enough to feel comfortable. Being a good interviewer only goes so far at a callback. You can't anticipate the personalities of the 6-8 people you're going to meet, or what they're going to view as a good fit. I've left callback interviewers knowing that all my interviewers viewed me as both intelligent and socially adept but convinced there was no offer forthcoming because the fit wasn't perfect.booyakasha wrote:A callback with a convincing "safety" coupled with lack of extreme social retardation and decent preparedness should make you feel comfortable, but I know people who have blown these interviews.
