how is OCI at your school compared to 2009?
This ground has sort of already been covered by the thread about how OCI fared for each individual, but I'm curious as to how OCI is shaping up in general, at each school. I keep reading things like "GULC is a bloodbath" and I'm wondering if this is true. How are things out there?

At Michigan, it seems like OCI is much better this year, but it is way to early to tell for sure.

No idea, but I'll say this...
It will be very difficult for anyone to give you a good response on this. I can tell you that as a 1L, I have been so caught up in orientation, 1L classes, learning my way around the city, meeting people, partying, etc. that I have had very little exposure to OCI. I also don't know enough 2Ls to draw any sort of conclusion on the matter (nor do I think many of my classmates know too many 2Ls at this point).
What this means is that if someone asked me a year from now, "Hey how does this year's OCI (2011) compare with last year?" I would not be able to give them an informed response because my 1L self does not have a good grasp on how 2010 OCI is going. So while 2Ls (or 3Ls) may come on here and say, "It is a bloodbath this year!" or "It is better than I expected," it is really hard to take that report seriously when they likely have little firsthand knowledge of previous OCIs, which makes it hard to compare.
I'm very interested in this question as well (trust me, I'd love to know how things are going), but I just think it will be hard to glean anything useful from OCI until we have hard data on school percentages, the number of summers, etc.

No answer yet. Speculation is speculation. There may never be an answer until c/o 2012 data is released in... 2013. Schools rarely publish info, anecdote isn't reliable, etc.
Still, definitely better than last year. Totally unclear precisely how or to what extent, however.

It seems to be very market specific. At NU, NYC and Texas seem to be much stronger than last year, while Chicago remains a bloodbath.

I don't even know how OCI worked out my year. I just know how my friends did. I don't know how you'd even guess that it seems like OCI is better or worse.

IP folks (particularly EEs) did very well (even in Chicago). Texas was good, but you had to have legit ties to Texas. I would offer a response, but things seem to be going at a glacial pace here at UChi. This must be the slowest moving OCI ever.

For me at least, the CA market has been pretty forgiving. I have 4 CBs (all v30) in the bay area out of around 15 norcal screeners. Transfer to NYU.miamiman wrote:How was the CA market?

This is really anecdotal, but in my experience EIW at NYU improved this year. That's based on really, really limited information on this year, and somewhat limited information from last year.

Re: how is OCI at your school compared to 2009?
I don't think anyone has the full picture from both years to really answer this question, but based on what I have heard (limited info from both years), I think it's about the same. Top 10%/IP people are getting 10+ callbacks. Top 1/3 getting a couple callbacks, depending on WE. It's rough for sub-median though, unless you have good WE.
Also, I have heard Chicago is really rough this year. But based on what I heard last year about Chicago, it was also rough, so I don't think it's worse this year than last since they seem to be hiring a small number of SAs both years.

Re: how is OCI at your school compared to 2009?
At my TTT (considered one of the "good" ones), there are 46 unique employers, according to a 2L I've been corresponding with. Generally seems like the mood at the school is up, and most of the people I've talked to that are 2Ls or 3Ls were doing some type of substantive work over the summer, though I'm sure that the ones that weren't aren't exactly talking it up in front of the 1Ls...

Re: how is OCI at your school compared to 2009?
It seems similar to 2009. There are a few more employers, but given that class sizes are still very small, I don't think the presence of more employers is having much of an impact. However, since everyone heard about 2009 and knew how tough OCI would be, many (if not most) people mailed firms over the summer, so I think that alone will result in more people getting SA positions.

At my B10 school (not NU, MICH, MN, or IL) there were reportedly seven firms that came to OCI in 2009, and around 55 firms that came this year.

Top 20% at a T14 and I have 16 callbacks. Only top ~5% people who were strong interviewers were pulling that many callbacks last year. It's better.

t6 or t14? No way that a non-t6 top 20% is getting 16 callbacks unless they have excellent WE or an IP background.Anonymous User wrote:Top 20% at a T14 and I have 16 callbacks. Only top ~5% people who were strong interviewers were pulling that many callbacks last year. It's better.

Summer class sizes remain relatively small.
