How many pre-selects do you have so far?
Out of 75 something bids I have 6. Im pretty much in the 50% in terms of class rank. Given my mediocre class rank, is this good or bad?

Depends on what school (or level of school) you attend.

Have you spoken to other classmates who are fairly close in rank to you? That would seem like a good way to assess whether or not your numbers are the norm for someone at your school and with about your rank.

Top-25-40 student here. For round one, I placed 2 bids and got 1 preselect. I bid on like 10 each for the next 2 rounds, and dropped about 10 more for resume collection, so I'll post results.

1) It depends on your rank / school.
2) It depends on the firm.
3) It depends on the timing of the process.
4) Many schools don't have pre-selects or else release all results at the same time.

Top 5%, school somewhere between T40-T50.
Bid on about 24 firms, got 18 prescreens so far, ranging from V5 to regional firms.

Good thing you didn't apply last year when GW was ranked 28th, then you wouldn't have gone.dood wrote:at loyola patent interview i was asked "why GW?"
i replied "best school i got into and all my lawyer family friends unanimously told me to a) go to the best law school u get into and b) if u dont get into top 20, dont go" <- note this advice does not apply to everybody, but in my circumstance where i was giving up $100K salary it was right.
back to interview story - so then i said something to the effect that i was looking at X, Y, Z schools b/c they offered me a big scholly but my family friends really talked me out of it. to which the interviewer replied, "yea, to be honest, if you're not literally top 1,2 maybe 3 at X, Y, Z school we wouldnt even give u a screener interview ITE"
true story. talk to many people and think long and hard before committing to law school if big law schmaww is ur only exit option.

You better hope it doesn't fall again... or they may no-offer you and take UIUC students instead.SBL wrote:Good thing you didn't apply last year when GW was ranked 28th, then you wouldn't have gone.dood wrote:at loyola patent interview i was asked "why GW?"

T20 transfer poster from above. I've spoken to about ten attorneys this summer from different biglaw firms (most of whom are hiring partners). This advice is spot on.dood wrote: to which the interviewer replied, "yea, to be honest, if you're not literally top 1,2 maybe 3 at X, Y, Z school we wouldnt even give u a screener interview ITE"
