Obama asking for 26 billion for government jobs for states
Today, President Obama asked the House for 26 billion to help states fund government jobs. Anyone want to give any baseless speculation on whether or not this is good news for those of us pursuing such jobs? Will this actually have an impact on hiring freezes?

You're assuming the Dems have the political capital to do this. Every dollar they spend between now and Nov is just going to increase the number of seats they lose.

Yes, I realize this. I was mainly asking about the impact if in fact it did pass, which it very well could.Thomas Jefferson wrote:You're assuming the Dems have the political capital to do this. Every dollar they spend between now and Nov is just going to increase the number of seats they lose.
Edit: Also, and I don't know if this makes any difference, the bill would be funded entirely by halting the subsidization of corporations that are shipping jobs over seas. As a result, I think this will make people cringe a little bit less since it won't add to the deficit.

The public sector is hemorrhaging jobs. That bill might act as a stopgap to prevent layoffs, but it's not an encouraging time to be looking for state employment of any sort.

This is kind of what I was thinking. It will stop many jobs from being lost but won't necessarily create any jobs.Renzo wrote:The public sector is hemorrhaging jobs. That bill might act as a stopgap to prevent layoffs, but it's not an encouraging time to be looking for state employment of any sort.

More government jobs saved = more money for public sector unions = more money for Democrats.

Oh look! A politics debate poorly disguised as a legal employment topic!
