How do you get rid of stuff about you in Google?

Post by DerrickRose » Wed Jul 28, 2010 7:18 pm

I have the misfortune of having a very distinctive name, which essentially means that when you type my name into Google, all the results are about me. Among them are various blogs and things that I have written over the years, which thanks to a healthy paranoia are long since deleted.

However, they are still available in cached form even though they are stricken from the sites which host them. How the hell am I supposed to get rid of this stuff? It's nothing too salacious, just juvenile off-color ramblings that aren't exactly flattering for an employer to read.

i dont know that you can. However, since your name is distinctive, you might be able to avoid this problem by bringing something else up to the top of the results page. Linkedin or other social media things that will be looked upon favorably or at least neutrally.

Hire an SEO company.

Or change your name.

They shall live on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on..... & on... and they shall be read by peeps who google you... and they shall be chuckled at... and they shall hopefully be disregarded as childish musings.

I feel for you on this.. I'm always wanting to learn more about computers and internet just because I am never really sure how vulnerable I am to various attacks and possible mishaps (which could include the variety you're talking about). I bet if you do some more research online you may find other helpful tips..

Having a very distinctive name does not mean that you're the only person with that name world-wide. How would anyone doing a google search know it's really you who posted the offensive/embarrassing shit?

This is basically all the pay site does. You can also ask google to remove the cache if you can delete the original content or have the webmaster do it.

Thanks for that. I've got some sort of request in to get rid of this thing.

Still, I'm sitting here wondering if all my OCI bids are currently being flushed down the toilet.

And I'm pretty sure I'm the only person on earth with my name (at least with the same spelling). If there is another one, they have no internet presence whatsoever.

Are these blogs that controversial?

No, but in a legal world of 10,000 law students to 1 job, that I'm even foolish enough to have my personal thoughts available on the internet seems like a dealbreaker.
