do most people send in edited versions of papers or briefs that they have written or do you send in a version pre any outside editing? i don't have anything that hasn't been at least a little bit edited by others or changed b/c of comments/suggestions made by others.
thanks.

Let your conscience be your guide. If someone proofread it for typos, that's still your work product. If someone hand-held you through substantial revisions, it would be wrong to claim it as your own.

Par for the course is to include a cover sheet and indicate any editing that has been done. Ideally, there is only grammer and spelling editing. If there are substantive changes made, use a different writing sample.

so do people not use articles published in their journals?

another writing sample question - if you use something that was filed with a court (your name is on it) is it weird to send it to the same judge for a clerkship application?
