Re: below median-should i do oci?
well of course you should do OCI.
Your odds of a biglaw offer are nonexistent to very poor... but you NEED to do OCI to give yourself as many shots at a job offer from somewhere as possible.
Times are tough. You need as many torpedoes in the water as possible.

Yes, ALWAYS Do OCI. There's no reason not to. It's the big interview fest. And even if you strike out, it will give you the ability to get interview experience, and maybe get some networking connections.

It takes like 10 seconds to bid. You could wind up with a job that pays you at or near six figures EVERY YEAR.hithere wrote:you think OP can actually get an interview?legalease9 wrote:Yes, ALWAYS Do OCI. There's no reason not to. Not trying at all would be stupid. Sure, the odds are against you, but worst case scenario you'll have wasted a few seconds bidding on firms.

Do it, all you usually need to do is prep a resume, transcript, etc, and click where you want to bid.
With that rank you will get few or no interviews and most definitely won't get a job but the point is you get a first hand taste of failure which honestly is a very good life lesson and will toughen you up.
Next, if you do get some interviews, you at least get some practice with the grip and grin and interviewing skills.
The point is that there is just no reason not to put the absolute minimal effort into clicking on bids.

Exactly. At minimum, it is good interview practice. Just be sure to explore other options as soon as you can. Here are some ideas:SteelReserve wrote:Do it, all you usually need to do is prep a resume, transcript, etc, and click where you want to bid.

1) Seek out a couple of professors who gave you decent grades. Explain to them that you are looking for some career advice. What would they do if they were in your shoes? Make sure you go in there being able to articulate what areas of law you are interested in. They might be able to hook you up with some firms.
2) Go to your public interest center. Same drill, just make sure you have tailored a presentation around public interest. "I have always wanted to protect my community by prosecuting the fuck out of people."
3) PMF!!! For realz. Presidential Management Fellowship. They don't care about grades. Awesome job. Really. Not law, mind you... but much much better than the vast majority of opportunities your peers have.
4) Public defender?

I hear the greeters at Wal-mart have the highest rate of suicide among any job. I try to be so nice to them whenever I go in there. I figure that squares away all the bad shit I do.hi_im_josh wrote:depends--you might actually have a chance of landing a job at OCI if these guys come:
