Do you need cover letters for OCI

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Jul 11, 2010 10:16 pm

This question will sound stupid (hence anonymous) but do you need to submit a cover, or just your resume, to firms for OCI?

Depends on the employer. A lot just want transcript/resume. out of the 20 or so bids I used - 3 wanted cover letters and only 1 a writing sample. Go figure.

What part of "it depends on the employer" was unclear?

sheesh..."depends," could mean it depends on type or location of firm...which is why i asked if it applies to "biglaw" or "nyc/dc"...no need to be rude

It completely varies from employer to employer (i.e., "it depends on the employer"). I'm not being rude. I didn't attack you personally. But when someone answers your question by saying that requests for cover letters depend on what specific employer you're talking about, then asking that person to generalize by sector/geography doesn't make much sense.

Also depends on the school. Some schools don't allow/ require cover letters because their bidding system is a lottery.

T10 school. 50 bids, of which 4 required cover letters and 8 or 9 requested for writing samples. One required references (god damn it covington). Firms outside of DC and NYC were MUCH more likely to request cover letters and/or writing samples, as were lower ranked vault firms.
