Help me bid

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Jun 12, 2010 6:23 pm

3.33 at NYU. I think that's medianish. Connections to DC.

No idea how to bid. Very conflicting advice from the "rising 3Ls" I know. Any thoughts?

I'd like to hear some advice on this as well. Roughly same GPA at NYU with ties to DC. OP how do you figure that 3.3 is median?

I think the 3.3 median is the general board consensus. But that means next to nothing. I'm approaching OCI as if I'm below median (and who knows, maybe I am.)

More details needed... What firms are you thinking about? Open to gov? Upward trend for grades? Work before law school? Willing to stay in NYC? What kind of tie are you talking about? What are you doing this summer?

Upward trend = Yes. Definitely willing to stay in NYC ... but most of my family ties are to DC. Definitely open to gov't, but I would like to get some experience in the private sector first. I have a great internship this summer (I don't want to specify, but this one thing I'm sure about.) I'm mostly thinking of targeting firms in the V50 - 100 range, with more of a focus on V70 - 100 ... and obviously the non-Vault firms that will be at OCI.

From what I understand a 3.3 is a good bit above the median. Median is closer to 3.2.

The grade distributions from Fall 2009 have been posted - the median is just above 3.3 in almost all of the 1L courses.

Professors/CS mentioned this. Most students end up with a smattering of Bs/B+s.

Yeah, I obsessively calculated the mean GPA of all our grades first semester, and it was a 3.296. Median's gotta be close. Because our curve's so flat at the bottom, median might be a bit lower than mean, but I've been assuming 3.3.
