1L Summer Intern Going Rate
my search words were too n00b so i couldnt find what i was looking for haha
anyone quickly let me know the average going rate for 1L summer internships (for those fortunate enough to get them) at biglaw?
preferably TX, but NYC is fine, as i imagine the two have similar rates (based on the same starting salaries of biglaw for the 2 markets)
thanks!

Re: 1L Summer Intern Going Rate
For NYC biglaw, at least in some cases, ~$2,700-$3,000 per week.

Re: 1L Summer Intern Going Rate
1Ls, 2Ls and first year associates all get paid about the same at almost any biglaw shop. It's about $3,100/wk. Some places pay summers slightly less, but I've never heard of a biglaw firm paying 1Ls and 2Ls different amounts. This is the rate for most major markets, such as NYC, LA, SF, DC, etc.

Maybe not in NYC or DC, but some firms do pay 1L's and 2L's different rates. Usually it is only by a few hundred dollars a week, which makes no sense to me, but it does happen.Danneskjöld wrote: but I've never heard of a biglaw firm paying 1Ls and 2Ls different amounts.

Re: 1L Summer Intern Going Rate
I'm a 1L summer associate at a V25 in NY. We get paid $3,080 per week. When you think about it, $3,080 x 52 weeks = $160,160 per year. I've heard that some places pay $3,077, which comes to $160,004.

Yep and yep. 100% of the 1L biglaw SA's I know from my T6 school were "diversity" hires.thesealocust wrote:You're getting a pro-rated first year salary,Anonymous User wrote:I'm a 1L summer associate at a V25 in NY. ... but even pre-ITE 1L firm gigs were impossible to bank on for most.

Thanks.bwv812 wrote:http://nalpdirectory.com/ is a good way to find market rates. ~$3,100/week seems to be the market rate in Austin, Dallas, and Houston.Scallywaggums wrote:For NYC biglaw,at least in some cases, ~$2,700-$3,100 per week.

LOL, I am the luckiest bastard ever. I didn't even think I was going to be working this summer and I randomly fall into this 1L SA where I make about 1k a week, which I might add I desperately needed. I'm not saying this to brag but to just add to the chorus that these kinds of jobs are EXTREMELY rare and I got luckier than crap. One of the luckiest things to ever happen to me, actually.

Don't count on 3k a week. Even most Harvard people haven't been getting those gigs recently.
The average 1L summer intern probably volunteers or makes $10-15 an hour.

For the majority of 1L summers, the going rate is $0.
