below median--any chance at getting a legal job?

Post by mollie » Fri Jun 04, 2010 8:39 pm

preferably federal govt? I haven't gotten my grades back yet, but I am trying to figure out a worst-case scenario. Do below median students land govt. jobs?

I'm a 0L. But from lurking on TLS for some time, I think a lot of people who are actually attending law school would want to know where you go to school:D

I would say that even at lower ranked schools you might be able to land a job if you absolutely network your ass off for the next two years, but it of course wouldn't be anything glamorous.

Federal government seems unlikely.

A federal govt. job is out of the question if you're below median.

Federal government is probably out, unless you're at a T6 or something, or maybe Georgetown and you've fostered connections.

You CAN get a job at/below median, even from a lower ranked school, but you'll have to do it based on networking and motivation on your part. Expecting to get one on grades is unlikely to happen, and now is not the time to sit back moan about your job prospects.

The game just got a whole lot tougher for you, and getting a job at OCI is likely out of the question (again, unless you're T6). You need to get your butt in gear and foster relationships with people in your area. Although that is still no guarantee that you will get a job, it will be a hell of a lot more likely than if you don't go out and try to make it happen. Good luck.

Depends on where you go to school and what federal government job (attorney, staff attorney, paralegal, litigation assistant, presidential management fellow, etc.).

a good school, but not t-14, which apparently embarrasses the OP, as revealed by her earlier posts. Apparently she was intending to transfer to a higher ranked school after gaining top 10% grades. Guess that didn't work out so well.

The school in question is Wisconsin. Good school, but not t-14, which apparently embarrasses the OP, as revealed by her earlier posts. Apparently she was intending to transfer to a higher ranked school after gaining top 10% grades. Guess that didn't work out so well.
But she's clearly so much smarter than the people at Wisconsin.

Man you really love Boalt; maybe you shouldn't have taken UVA over them? lol I've heard that lateral transfers are pretty easy so you may want to go for it (I think small jumps are easy to make too so going from UVA to Columbia or Chicago might not be hard either) and see if they will still give you that partial scholarship.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
