It's not the end all, be all. Recruiting is a little different, but I know plenty of tech people shut out as 1Ls and plenty of non tech / non urms who pulled something down.Renzo wrote:Econ has definitely helped my grades in lawl school, but I sure wish I had me a tech background when it comes to job searching.Anonymous User wrote:Absolutely. As a 0L I got a job at firm for the summer for 12$ an hour. Isn't that market rate for a lawyer these days?

Close, im getting 15/hracdisagod wrote:As a 0L I got a job at firm for the summer for 12$ an hour. Isn't that market rate for a lawyer these days?
Also im considering my 1L job a SA position because it is at a small firm and I get to pick my job title.

Market for an SA in a mid-sized market is about 32.50/hour for a 40 hour week (1300/wk).JPU wrote:Close, im getting 15/hracdisagod wrote:As a 0L I got a job at firm for the summer for 12$ an hour. Isn't that market rate for a lawyer these days?

In larger markets like DC, NY it's about 75/hour for a 40 hour week (3000/wk).
How do I know? Just do an internet search...

You think honors fellow > summer associate?Renzo wrote:I would go for something like "Honors Fellow."vexion wrote:Law Czar.JPU wrote:it is at a small firm and I get to pick my job title.
I choose SA because I figured for interviews next year it would stick out like:
"Oh wow he landed a SA spot, not many 1Ls get those so he must be good"

Working in house for a Corporation in Va.
$1700/ week
URM AA Male Harvard
Average Grades
I was rejected from close to 100 firms, 13 of them in my home market which is a secondary market. None of them were hiring 1L's, and 2 basically rolled out the red carpet for me to come visit when I was in town for Christmas and Spring Break

Word is, Wachtell hired 1 person at my CCN, too. I wonder if we're referring to the same school/person.Anonymous User wrote:Self-correction (I'm the V50 poster): Word is, Wachtell actually hired 1 URM and 1 Asian at my CCN.Renzo wrote:I think the edited post pretty much sums it up.Anonymous User wrote:V50 $3,076/week. Didn't take it though. Damn my newly found interest in public service.
Edit: Non-URM. ~3.9 GPA at CCN. Interviewed for 10 firm jobs, only got one offer (through connections). The rest went to URM's. Come to think of it, the spot I turned down also went to a URM.

Edit: Well I guess I outed myself. Doesn't matter. After this semester, I'll be back at median.

Also, after this quarter, I'll be below median. So there's that.

It's ok. Employers probably can't tell a difference between a 170 and a 180.dresden doll wrote:Hah, sorry. Didn't mean to get you to out self.Unemployed wrote:I'm at the other C.dresden doll wrote:

Top 15% at T25
Non-URM
Some previous work experience in non-related field
Small Boutique firm, under 1K a week. Got it on my own by looking up mid size firms in the area and blanketing them with resumes and cover letters. Obviously not market, but this was the only paying offer I received. The best thing is that the partners are all either BigLaw or DOJ alum. or both and I get to work closely with them (at least that's what they said) since the firm is so small (under 15 attorneys). I think it will be me and one other SA..
