2010 Paid SAs for 1Ls
So, did any 1L TLSers land a paid SA at a firm this summer?

Re: 2010 Paid SAs for 1Ls
NLJ250 firm in a smaller market. Not IP. $2K/week, which is market rate for the area.
Edit: T10, non-URM.
Edit #2: emailed about 15 firms in the same city. Most weren't hiring 1L's. Got 2 interviews over break. Got an offer from one before grades came out, accepted and withdrew from consideration for the other one. Oddly enough I had a connection to the one I withdrew from, but not the one that actually made me an offer.
Edit #3: there'll be at least 3 other 1L SA's at the office I'm working at. All are from T10 or higher schools.

V50 $3,076/week. Didn't take it though. Damn my newly found interest in public service.
Edit: Non-URM. ~3.9 GPA at CCN. Interviewed for 10 firm jobs, only got one offer (through connections). The rest went to URM's. Come to think of it, the spot I turned down also went to a URM.

Thanks to everyone who is sharing. Any chance we could get school (or at least range) with these? Also, URM status?

This is crucial, based on my anecdotal experience of where my T6 classmates ended up.expat wrote:Thanks to everyone who is sharing. Any chance we could get school (or at least range) with these? Also, URM status?

I wonder if you can speak about that. Does it seem to make more or less difference the higher you go? I mean, is the difference in outcomes more or less pronounced as you move from T3-T6-T14?Renzo wrote:This is crucial, based on my anecdotal experience of where my T6 classmates ended up.expat wrote:Thanks to everyone who is sharing. Would also be nice to hear how you got the job. I'd like to distinguish between the crowd who called their dad's college best friend who is a partner in the firm, and the people who got them based on grades/mailing/networking on their own.

I do know a non-urm girl who got a big firm gig from UIUC. No idea how she got it.

Non-urm, market salary / major legal market, used connections, pristine grades, T14 law school, unfathomable number of dings first including places I had stronger connections. Job market sucks.

Self-correction (I'm the V50 poster): Word is, Wachtell actually hired 1 URM and 1 Asian at my CCN.Renzo wrote:I think the edited post pretty much sums it up.Anonymous User wrote:V50 $3,076/week. Didn't take it though. Damn my newly found interest in public service.

Non-URM, MVP, top 5%. Got 5 firm offers, accepted one at 2k/week, mkt. rate. One offer through connections (the one I accepted), 3 through on campus interviewing and one through a random resume drop. Got a stack of rejections though (all major markets- NY, DC, Chicago, etc...)

I know a non-URM at my CCN who got a gig with a market-paying boutique. He's probably #1 in the 1L class though.

Re: 2010 Paid SAs for 1Ls
I actually know at least 4 non-URMs in my section at a T10 with 1L market rate firm jobs. But each has a fairly unique story: ties to a (secondary) geographic area and/or legal connections, generally coupled with good grades.Anonymous User wrote:Texas must be doing better.....Off the top of my head I know 5 kids in my section alone with market gigs... all non URM.
A lot depends on firm practice regarding 1Ls. The bigger the firm, the less likely they ever were to take (many) 1Ls over the summer, much less ITE. Secondary markets thus consistently fared better, so it doesn't surprise me that Texas had a lot of slots for 1Ls relative to say DC or NYC.
