What was most surprising about this thread is finding out that people actually spend time thinking about the OPs questions ... what else?

what do you see in those pockets?
i challenge you to find a more "conservative" men's shop (and before you post a link of the andover shop's selection, they're still selling tweed sportcoats on the website, and that's different)

No, the person you'll be sitting down with is your interviewer, not your prom date.

This whole thread is wrong ... You are really thinking about weather or not to decorate your pocket. That is going to mess up your head. The more you think about things like attire, the more you trip out about being judged by someone. It will make your interview lame. Just show up doing it how you do best! That is the best state of mind for an interview [Period!!!]

Personally, I'd go with an ascot.

Let me get this straight: Because a conservative clothing store sells pocket squares and has pictures on its website of suits with pocket squares that means that wearing a pocket square to a interview is considered "conservative" fashion?DoctorNick189 wrote:http://jpressonline.com/suits_pressiden ... p?page=all

Maybe in the South, where they're always trying to turn the clock back 50 years or more.Posner wrote:I'm shocked so many people think pocket squares are a good idea in an interview. Maybe there's an area of the country where this is the norm?

I see nothing wrong with a plain white pocket square.
You guys seriously think something like this: --LinkRemoved-- is out of the question?

It depends. Are you trying to look like James Bond?Helmholtz wrote:I see nothing wrong with a plain white pocket square.

Re: Quick Poll - Pocket Square for a job interview or no?
wow. this thread is shocking.
Upside... possibly you run into someone who says, "hmm that kid had a nice pocket square."
Middle ground... no one notices your damn hanky
Downside... "and that guy with good grades who might have had a shot... is a douche."
Considering it is an issue enough to actually be contentious... there is a good possibility you will interview someone who falls in that downside category

I also make a habit of bringing my own tumbler of single malt scotch, neat. I recommend Edradour our Isle of Jura.vanwinkle wrote:Sure, if you're applying for a job on the set of Mad Men.ausoccer19 wrote:Yes, but only if its a simple white "Don Draper" style pocket square, only about a 1/2 inch showing. Nothing flashy, just classy, especially with a darker gray/charcoal suit. Make sure its crisp and angular, it is a pocket SQUARE after all.

Don Draper wears a pocket square, and he's in fashion right now. If you go for one, make sure it's plain white, and flat like his and James Bond's.

I actually know the answer to this but I'm interested in letting you ponder it.D. H2Oman wrote:Helmholtz wrote:I see nothing wrong with a plain white pocket square.

I understand not wearing one to the interview, but what about after you get the job? Is it frowned upon to dress with personality? I'd rather not be stuck in a boring navy suit and white shirt forever.

Depends, If you want them to concentrate on your merits don't wear it. However, if you graduated from some TTT and have a couple of felony convictions than the square might help to distract them.

If you know the answer Kronk, why don't you just tell everyone instead of hiding behind an anonymous feature when you don't need to?Anonymous User wrote:I actually know the answer to this but I'm interested in letting you ponder it.D. I say throw in a monocle and you'll be set!
But actually there is really no way of telling without seeing the suit, but I would probably wait until after you got the job to wear it.

Re: Quick Poll - Pocket Square for a job interview or no?
Is this seriously even a question? As somebody who wears a suit to work everyday, I can safely say that I have NEVER seen anybody wear a pocket square. And if I did, I'd make fun of them.
That said, I have seen several partners at my accounting firm (and some of my law firm clients) wear suspenders... which is a certain "don't do" for a young guy.

You don't get to rock the suspenders until you're a BSD. Consult Liar's Poker by Michael Lewis.theantiscalia wrote:That said, I have seen several partners at my accounting firm (and some of my law firm clients) wear suspenders... which is a certain "don't do" for a young guy.

I've heard the same is true for colored shirts with white collars and french cuffs (in the office).TheBigMediocre wrote:You don't get to rock the suspenders until you're a BSD.
