Knobbe Martens
I am doing an early interview soon. I really liked the people and the work, but I can see a few downsides.
Thoughts on the firm?

Can't comment on what it's like to work on the inside. Their work product is generally pretty good so it's likely that you'll learn a decent amount. Not a bad option, and certainly better career wise than some of the high volume patent shops.

Re: Knobbe Martens
They hosted an IP dinner for NU 1Ls and I was quite impressed. The firm's finances are strong. They haven't cut the size of their summer classes. They seem to have a great firm culture. Eg: their vacation days are credited as billable hours, so you can use them without worrying if you're making more hours than the next guy. They also have a good relatively bullshit-free partnership track: 6 years, no non-equity partners, excess hours don't count towards partnership chances.

Hi, should have said I am a 1L and this is for a 2011 SA position, pre-OCI.
I have gotten the same impression from them as people mention here. Really liked the people (a lot...) as well as the work that they do. A partner told me at a recruiting event that last year was their strongest financial year ever (!) and they want to hire their biggest SA class for summer of 2011. Yeah, the partnership track is amazingly sweet, I have to admit. It might make up for the somewhat lower pay.
They must be recruiting hard for the upcoming class - they also hosted a dinner for 1Ls at my school, at a very nice restaurant to boot.

Good luck for the interview! How did you get it, if you don't mind me asking? I had no idea such an opportunity existed when I had dinner with them.Anonymous User wrote:Hi, should have said I am a 1L and this is for a 2011 SA position, pre-OCI.

I don't know. I had applied for a summer 1L position, but they didn't hire me, but apparently kept my application, and asked to add my transcript to it to "complete" it for summer 2011? I have no idea what the time frame is (I just sent a transcript today). I find it odd they don't want to wait for spring grades, so it makes me think that they were considering interviewing before the end of the semester? I wish I knew...lawbuddha wrote:Good luck for the interview! How did you get it, if you don't mind me asking?
