clerkships are after graduation and can be quite impressive
judicial internships are for the summer and are rarely impressive

As underdawg already mentioned, in-house out of law school is pretty much unheard of. The most usual route is to spend 3-5 years doing transactional work in a big firm. The in-house counsels of big companies usually have high-stakes legal matters, and as such look to seek outside counsel from the best firms in America. A highly respected firm that has a practice group in the legal areas in which you are interested would give you the best exit options, so you should put your efforts towards landing a 2L Summer Associate position with one of these firms.

I'm just curious, how many of these offers do you actually have open? Because that could really narrow down your decision.

You would be insane to try for anything other than a big firm SA as plan A.Anonymous User wrote:2 of them, didn't try for anything else, and I had already made that decision anyway. I'm really trying to gauge what to focus efforts on for my 2L summer.Renzo wrote:I'm just curious, how many of these offers do you actually have open? 2L SA = firm gig, unless you know for certain that you want to do PI, and even then, still probably firm gig. Certainly NOT a judicial internship--internships are great 1L summer jobs, not so great 2L

If you can't get a 2L SA gig, what's the next best thing? Try for any firm, big or small/local?ToTransferOrNot wrote:2L SA = firm gig, unless you know for certain that you want to do PI, and even then, still probably firm gig. Whatever is most likely to result in a permanent offer. That would be my question anyplace I interviewed, "what are the chances you'd be able to hire me when I graduate if the summer goes well?"JPeavy44 wrote:If you can't get a 2L SA gig, what's the next best thing?
