USAO DC or NY?
I'm a 1L and I just got an offer for the USAO SDNY and DC. And, I have to respond by tomorrow! Any thoughts on location? Which one is more prestigious? I'm inclined to think SDNY, but not sure... any insight would be appreciated!

Re: USAO DC or NY?
It is seen (at least by those I have talked to) as the most prestigious office. It handles very high profile cases, it is located in the center of the legal world (NYC) and is the hardest USAO to get into, just look at the resumes of the attorneys who work there or who have worked there and are now partners at V100 firms or moved onto other great future gigs.

Although everyone thinks that USAO NY is the place to go, if you want to stand out and make a name for yourself, go with DC (which is equally as difficult to get into) where you will get to be a bigger fish. It's all about strategy and future rec's. Go DC.

This person is trying to trick you in hopes of stealing your spot. LOL. Not a spot stealer and I don't believe in rankings, either.

SDNY sounds like the place to be - what are some reasons it's better than DC? i know someone said high profile cases earlier, anything else?

I think the real question you should be asking yourself is "Do I want to live in DC or NYC this summer", not "Which is more prestigious". It really shouldn't matter.
Also, if you haven't looked into it already You might see if those USAOs would be ok with you splitting. Then you would want to consider which city you would be more likely to get a paying job in.

Get experience, get connections, get cash, get something to put on your resume.diplomat wrote:thanks, i have chosen SDNY.

I think the point is no employers are really going to care if the USAO job you had in your 1L year was in DC or NYC. They care more that you had the USAO experience at all.
