Any benefit for 1L hiring?
It's my understanding that there is a decent amount of 1L hiring before grades even come out. Given that, would working for law firm this summer as a 0L give me any advantage in applying for a summer 1L job?

Not unless it is a small firm.

ANY advantage? Yes. A significant advantage? No.acdisagod wrote:It's my understanding that there is a decent amount of 1L hiring before grades even come out. Given that, would working for law firm this summer as a 0L give me any advantage in applying for a summer 1L job?

Would it be better then to take a non legal job and make a few thousand this summer or the unpaid legal job? Money isn't a huge issue so I'm leaning toward unpaid legal.

I would take the unpaid legal if money isn't an issue. The more you can get on your resume under Legal Experience the better.

neither will help you at all compared to a tiny fraction of a GPA point increase. do it if you want to (and I can see why you would), don't expect a resume bump.

Re: Any benefit for 1L hiring?
I have a crappy GPA from last semester a high T14 and every employer I've interviewed with (non-firm, but some in-house) has liked that I had legal experience, especially some work I did at a small firm. It doesn't make up for my GPA completely in terms of getting offers, but it's been made clear to me that I got interviews that I wouldn't have otherwise because of it.
