1) Big law firm.
2) Small/Mid law firm.
3) Judicial Internship for Federal Judge.
4) Judicial Internship for State Judge.
5) Working at US Attorneys Office.
6) Bankruptcy Courts.
7) Working at a company's legal department (AT&T, HP)
Just curious as to which jobs are more preferable over another.
Would greatly appreciate if you take time to rank em.

+6. Besides "depends on what you like," what's the real answer here? Except for me, sub out "Big" and "Small" firm with "Highly Selective" and "Pretty Selective."

Re: 1L Summer Job Preference Rankings
I disagree.
1) US Attorneys Office
2) Research assistant for professor
3) Well paying firm
4) Judicial Internship
5) Other gov organization (JAG, senate committee, fcc, ect.)
6) Crummy paying firm
7) Starbucks/Gigolo
I would like to get paid, sure, but I think the experience you get working for the USAO or connections and academic experience from being an RA outweigh the immediate benefit of the extra cash in the long run. I would put Judicial internships above firm jobs too, except usually you just end up interning for the clerks, so you don't get to do as much.

Re: 1L Summer Job Preference Rankings
From perspective of someone interested in corporate:
1) Firm in a major market that pays $3000+/week
2) Firm in a secondary market pays $2000+/week
3) In-house legal department at F500 that pays $20+/hour
4) In-house legal department at F500 that pays <$20/hour
5) USAO with funding from school
6) PI with funding from school
7) All else that don't qualify for school summer funding
Essentially anything that pays a lot > anything that pays more than school's summer funding > anything that qualifies for school summer funding > anything that causes my wallet to be lighter at the end of the summer
