DC Superior Court v. Florida Circuit Court

Post by gdin » Mon Feb 01, 2010 8:20 pm

I was offered a judicial internship at the DC Superior Court for the summer. I also have the option of studying abroad for a month and then working at a Florida Circuit Court. WHich would be better?

As a DC paralegal...DC Superior Court makes me want to punch myself in the face every single time I have to go there. Seriously, its awful.

I'd imagine this has absolutely nothing to do with the people you'd work with or the duties you'd do but...oh god I hate them. I hate them so much.

Where do you plan on practicing? Employers would prefer to see familiarity with the jurisdiction you will be working in.

Not necessarily. But they do quite a bit of personal injury type stuff. Not too much prestige. But a clerkship there wouldn't hurt for someone looking to do PI work in DC. For a 1L just looking for a summer internship, it probably doesn't matter at all.

Both courts being considered are courts of general jurisdiction, and are essentially equivalent as far as subject matter is concerned.
