Im a 1L @ umich with a big fat 2.9 gpa (our median for 1Ls is 3.2)
What (aside from flipping burgers or hanging out on corners) can i do this summer?
I wanted to be in DC, but am doubtful gov internships will stoop to my level.
Does anyone know of any law firms in need of a janitor this summer?
Seriously, what kind of summer opportunities are out there for us non 4.0ers?
Thanks so much,

You might try applying for receptionist or secretary positions. In the current economic climate, you don't stand much of a chance at anything else.

High-paying firm work is certainly out of the question, but you shouldn't have a problem finding some volunteer legal position this summer. You might even get paid working for a small firm or through a public interest stipend / work study.
Just remember, there are many law students with grades similar to yours, but they don't attend UMich. You are still in a pretty good situation.
Best of luck.

My job last year summer didn't even ask for grades. It was pretty competitive, but in a smaller market with no top law schools in the area. If you have ties to a place like that, it can't hurt to throw in an resume (don't include your grades).

I had an absolutely brutal GPA my first semester (worse than yours). I ended up being a research assistant for a professor.
