District Attorney Office Thoughts?

Post by gobucks101 » Wed Dec 23, 2009 6:13 pm

So the District Attorney office really appeals to me. Each office tends to hire around 10 1L volunteer positions for the summer. I'm not T-14 (between 20-25) and expecting to finish around median to top 1/3 from the past exams. I was thinking the best course would be to apply to less high profile offices, like New Mexico etc. Anyone have any knowledge of the type of applicants or competitiveness of those offices, or has anyone ever done this? Thanks in advance.

Your post title says US Attorney but your post says district attorney- from the link it seems you mean the former. I worked for one after my 1L year and it was a good experience. As far as which ones to apply to, mine definitely asked me about connections to the market and my plans to return there, so I'm not sure it would be a good plan to apply to smaller markets you have no connections to, but otherwise yes. My office was one of the larger ones in the country and was mostly T14 students, but there were a few from lower ranked school, albeit with some pretty good softs. They didn't ask for grades btw, in fact I had my offer (or at least my interview) before I had all my grades.

If you have specific questions I can try to help.
