Work wise, I don't think it's necessarily crazy. Skadden Boston is a great firm for what it does, which as you've pointed out, is mostly M&A. That said, I've heard very few positive things from people who have worked in Skadden's Boston office.Anonymous User wrote:What's the general perception re Skadden boston? I know they only do M&A. If that's what I want to do would it be crazy to go there over big three firms? I've liked the people I've met with a lot.
I had a friend trying to make that decisions a couple summers ago (summer 2012) and went with his big three offer because Skadden's offer rate for the summer before had been something like 3/5. That's a few years in the past and I don't remember the exact numbers, but RG/GP/WH are gonna be pretty much 100% rates. NALP had Skadden at 4/4 for summer 2012, for what it's worth, so maybe that other year (2011) was an outlier.Anonymous User wrote:What's the general perception re Skadden boston? Just to be clear, Skadden Boston doesn't only do M&A--they have a legit and well regarded litigation group. If you meant that they only do M&A on the corporate side, that's pretty much true. They have very small groups in Investment Management and Executive Compensation/Benefits, but you can't count on those groups to be hiring in any given year.Anonymous User wrote:What's the general perception re Skadden boston? I think that's fair to ask on a follow-up visit or something once you already have an offer.Anonymous User wrote:hmmm. that's a little scary. is that the kind of thing I could ask about if I received an offer?
Skadden Boston will grind your ass out faster than other Boston firms. You'll be working 9AM - midnight (or later) regularly, not 9-6 or 7 with the occasional late night.Anonymous User wrote:Just to be clear, Skadden Boston doesn't only do M&A--they have a legit and well regarded litigation group. I have also heard bad things about the work environment.
Is this from personal experience? True on lit and corp sides?Anonymous User wrote:Skadden Boston will grind your ass out faster than other Boston firms.
