Re: CLS EIP 2011
Has anyone heard back from hogan lovells post-callback? I had a callback on Tuesday and the last partner I met with told me that the hiring committee was meeting literally right after our interview. But it was unclear whether they would be making offers asap or not...?

For anyone considering still sending out resumes (or anyone not considering it but with advice), do you send a cover letter as a formatted email or attach it and just put a short note in the email?

Re: CLS EIP 2011
I've always heard that it's better to attach it and just write a short intro email, namely because what would happen (if anything) is the recruiter would forward a promising package on to the hiring partner, and the attachments just make it easier to do that. That said, this will almost never be a huge deal - people are reasonable and care more about having the best candidates than about things like this that don't speak at all to judgment or attention to detail.Anonymous User wrote:For anyone considering still sending out resumes (or anyone not considering it but with advice), do you send a cover letter as a formatted email or attach it and just put a short note in the email?
For what it's worth, I've also heard conflicting things about whether the attachment should be one package of the resume/transcript/cover letter, or three separate files, but that separate is better. Just food for thought.

Re: CLS EIP 2011
Does anyone have any words of wisdom on what firms are looking for in callbacks? I've had several CBs and have only gotten rejections, including from firms where I thought my interview went pretty well, and I can't figure out where I'm going wrong. I know this is obviously vague and can differ between firms but if anyone has any general advice that would be helpful.

Re: CLS EIP 2011
I am slightly below median - I have approximately a 3.22 (but a lot of Bs) and i have a couple offers. I think it came down to how focused and specialized my bid list was - my greatest successes were with firms that seemed to match very closely with my background and interests.Anonymous User wrote:how far below median?Anonymous User wrote:How are below median people doing? Re: CLS EIP 2011
I've done reasonably well with my CB:offer ratio so maybe I can help. Your question is a little too vague so if you'd prefer to pm go ahead and do that so I can offer more concrete advice.Anonymous User wrote:Does anyone have any words of wisdom on what firms are looking for in callbacks? Also, before taking anyone's advice, run to OCS and have them do a mock interview with you if you haven't done so already (and even if you have it might help if you're getting burnt out from all the interviewing). I think that, generally, firms are not inviting people for CBs that they're not, at least on some level, interested in having there. Yes they have to compare you to others in your class (because they can't take everyone), but they've already limited the list in such a way that they're willing to take out 2-3 hours (collectively) of billable time. In other words, your lack of offers is rarely going to be about your grades or lack of experience at this level (and I don't even know if those are issues for you) and more about how you fit with them and how much you showed your interest in them. That's where research and enthusiasm make all the difference. I've also found asking interviewers for advice on your career and expressing (sincere I hope) admiration of their careers gets their motors going.
Note that the above advice is slightly off for smaller firms/boutiques where limitations on hiring just means that they're not as efficient in their process, is that most of your CBs? If so, (a) be patient, they apparently take much longer to respond and (b) talk to OCS about mailing out your resume to a more diverse cross-section of firms.
It also sounds like you're still waiting on responses and maybe have other CBs coming up so if interviewing is the problem just force someone (OCS comes to mind) to work with you to get the bugs out.
Hope that helps.
