Banana Republic? Their suits don't really work for me. Wish they made a 38L.blowhard wrote:BR?Stanford4Me wrote:BR employee discounts are amazing. Friend got me 2 suits, one charcoal and one grey with hints of brown, for $540. Amazing.

If you can wait, JAB has better sales pretty regularly (like 70% off all suits and buy one get two free). I would definitely recommend the signature gold if you can spring for it as they are half-canvas construction and will last much longer.

I love the fits of their suits on my body. Especially the slack. I still usually end up taking them to the tailor, though.Emma. wrote:Banana Republic? Their suits don't really work for me. Re: Suits (Clothing, not law)
Make sure you get details about how the suit jacket is built on the inside. Many places I went to in Thailand had great prices, but it only got you the jacket shell, and none of the foundation/liner. It'll look great on the hanger, but not so great when worn. That's not to say that's what this guy does, just want to make sure you know what you're buying.blowhard wrote:Anyone ever use one of the Thailand places like http://www.ravistailor.com?
Also make sure to see fabric samples. The prices jumped quite a bit once you got into fabric you'd actually want to be seen in. That said, even their best high threadcount wool was a bargain relative to US prices. (This was 2001-2002)

I spent a semester in Thailand and bought two jackets while I was there. One looks fine on me, the other is probably headed to the Salvation Army soon. I'd say avoid these places.blowhard wrote:Anyone ever use one of the Thailand places like http://www.ravistailor.com?

FYI - LexisNexis has a program that provides a corporate discount at Brooks Brothers for law students ~ 15% off.

They offer full canvas if you ask it. You get to pick the color of the liner.Rotor wrote:Make sure you get details about how the suit jacket is built on the inside. If you're not doing anything before classes start, blowhard, you might want to see about some outlet stores too. I think the closest outlet mall to AA is Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills. It might end up being a bit of a waste if you can't find anything, but you might strike gold.

Re: Suits (Clothing, not law)
I struck gold there this weekend. I didn't end up buying a suit right now but I shopped around for the lulz ( I was there for 6 hours). Places had some good deals and it's only about 75 minutes away. The Tanger Outlet in Howell is probably a bit closer but their selection of stores (suit wise) sucks. I think they have a BR. You might find something @ Tommy but their selection kind of blows and Howell in general blows (a lot of white trash and KKK types).thalassocrat wrote:If you're not doing anything before classes start, blowhard, you might want to see about some outlet stores too. Oh yea, I originally found Great Lakes from searching for closest BB outlet, so it must have skipped the one in Howell.zettsscores40 wrote:I struck gold there this weekend. Do they have decent deals there? I may make a road trip up tomorrow.thalassocrat wrote:Oh yea, I originally found Great Lakes from searching for closest BB outlet, so it must have skipped the one in Howell.zettsscores40 wrote:I struck gold there this weekend. not trying to be the creepy internet guy, but it would be easier/funnier to read advice if we could have pics (no faces) of said advice giver in a suit.

Don't go to Howell. Great Lakes had some deals IIRC. Skip Off 5th they didn't have anything good there and the staff seemed to suck. But BB and a few other places had sales (I was there on Friday so they might be new stuff for the week).blowhard wrote:Do they have decent deals there? Anyone have any thoughts about J. Crew suits? They seem a little slimmer cut than Banana Republic (which don't fit me to well) and it looks like the price is right.

Just bought a suit at dillards, the guy really knew what he was talking about so that helped. But apparently 36L's don't exist in the world of suits

This. Pufer knows his shit. IDK why he's going to law school. He should just write a book of sorts and make bank.Nightrunner wrote:If TLS ever decides to throw a charity auction, count me in as bidding heavily for "a day suit shopping with Pufer."

Re: Suits (Clothing, not law)
I found a 38L suit the company had in stock, and they're going to tailor an inch of the shoulders because it's just a bit too wide still, i'm praying that won't butcher it. Life's not all that easy when you're 150 pounds and 6'3Emma. wrote:You are one skinny hipster.delBarco wrote:Just bought a suit at dillards, the guy really knew what he was talking about so that helped.
