Is it safe to expect a ding if you had no CB and haven't heard back from a firm at this point (not even for a screener)? I know it must vary but it seems a lot of them are wrapping up CBs around now, no?

Does anyone know about St. Louis biglaw SA's? I applied to all the usual suspects. Offer from Lathrop & Gage (STL), call back at Husch Blackwell, Thompson Coburn, Lewis Rice, and Greensfelder. Waiting on all to respond. Just wondering if anyone knows the timeline on these or as heard anything?

Any word on L&G KC?

I know they are doing spring OCI this week at several places. But their KC office really likes to hire 1Ls.

Do you know anything about Shook KC?

Shook KC also just interviewed at WashU OCI, will update if I hear about anyone getting callbacks here.

Any new news about Texas firms in general? I know that there have been quite a few people on here asking about Dallas, Austin, and Houston.

I had a callback at BB Dallas about 2 weeks ago, and was told that they expected to have decisions made by the end of last week. Haven't heard of any movement yet, but I'm expecting my ding is in the mail. Fingers crossed that maybe hiring got delayed, though.

DC firms seem to be moving this week for those looking at that. Accepted an offer before some callbacks started getting back this week (Skadden and Jones Day are starting to ask for callbacks now). Silicon Valley seems to be wrapping up callbacks.

I haven't heard anything. I'm out of state, applied to Dallas/Austin/Houston, but only got contacted by Dallas.

Boble, do you mean you got CBs from the DC offices of Skadden and Jones Day this week? other posts here say that Skadden DC CBs have been going on for awhile now with some offers out. I'm just curious as to Jones Day DC and its timeline.

3 CB --> 2 offers. No ties to any of the firms, all three of which are in markets that TLS has traditionally called tie-sensitive. However, I'm IP so firms might be less picky.

I think that (once you get a screener/CB) it's not really about "ties," in the sense that you have to demonstrate how 90% of your life has played out in that area. It's more about how convincingly you can answer the question "why do you want to come here." Of course that question becomes easier if you've lived your entire life there, but you don't need to have that in order to craft a convincing narrative. "Because the weather is nice" probably won't cut it, but if you can speak to the work that's being done in that area in addition to why you want to live in that particular city, you can convince someone you won't be a flight risk without having any "ties."

They're doing OCI at UMKC and Mizzou from my understanding.

CB --> Offer about 3 hours (right before close of business that day), other one just notified that decision will be Friday so that will be about 10 days post CB. Try to get the dean or someone at your school with an attorney connection there to call on your behalf and ask about timeline. Looks better than you calling recruiter (in my very limited experience).

The TLS refrain is that 1L jobs don't matter. And for good reason IMO, because basically they don't. At the very least I can't imagine a scenario where they hurt you (as long as it's legal)

Lots of people do stuff 1L summer that signals the direct opposite of what they end up doing 2L summer. It happens all the time.

If it really becomes an issue during a screener just say "Whelp, now I know that I hate tax lulz!" and then the screener will high five you because lulz who likes tax except for tax weirdos amirite?
