Pretty sure offers for the Big 3 don't go out until early/mid August. One of the 3 where I SAed said they won't send out offers (for rising 3Ls) until after first week of August (and to disregard everything else as baseless rumor). I'm guessing the others are about the same.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone heard of first half offers going out in Houston?
Rising 2Ls might get theirs a little earlier though...

In case anyone's curious, the way it's structured (at least in Houston) is that the three biggest firms (by summer class size -- V&E, Fulbright, Baker Botts) have 1st half SAs only (so they're not competing with each other as the student will have made his/her choice on the front-end, before the summer has even begun). The second-half big firms (Bracewell, Andrews Kurth, Locke, etc.) have smaller classes, and I was not able to snag one of those. But at UT I know plenty of people who got big firm SAs both halves though.SA2014 wrote:Finishing up week 8 at NYC firm........ mine ends Aug 1st. Double SA's sound so sweet. It's definitely good for the student. But I still have no idea why only Texas does it this way.

Because the big boys in NY don't want to share their toys with other firms.Anonymous User wrote:In case anyone's curious, the way it's structured (at least in Houston) is that the three biggest firms (by summer class size -- V&E, Fulbright, Baker Botts) have 1st half SAs only (so they're not competing with each other as the student will have made his/her choice on the front-end, before the summer has even begun). Personally I think it would be best for the firms and for the students to essentially force everyone to split. The firms get to see twice the number of SAs and can have more freedom to no offer ones that don't quite fit in for one reason or another. That the vast majority of SAs are only eligible for 1 offer means that 100% offer rates are much more prevalent than they should be. The SAs get to have more than 1 BigLaw experience and can make a much more meaningful choice because they can actual make an informed comparison.

For people who feel pretty good so far (no terrible reviews, firm generally offers everyone or close, etc), are you bidding for 3L OCI anyway? Assume the worst until the an offer/no offer happens?

Yupp , it takes 5 minutes to bid and neuroticism is a serious bitch. Also I went full cray cray and bid mostly the worst firms on the top of my list with the logic being if I get no-offered I would want ANYTHING and I'm prob more competitive for a lower ranked firm. Will drop all bids if/when offer comes in.franklyscarlet wrote:For people who feel pretty good so far (no terrible reviews, firm generally offers everyone or close, etc), are you bidding for 3L OCI anyway? Yeah, but full cray cray doesn't do it at my school. Only 8 firms total for our 3L OCI, and most of them have limited slots ( <4 ). Just have to bite my fingers and wait.redsox550 wrote:Yupp , it takes 5 minutes to bid and neuroticism is a serious bitch. I can confirm at least one market-paying biglaw firm in Houston has given out offers to rising 3Ls.

Since you're anon, would you mind saying the firm (or giving a list/range)? Getting a little anxious after reading this.Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Pretty sure offers for the Big 3 don't go out until early/mid August. I won't say the firm, but I know that they gave out 100% offers, so you would know if you summered there.

well then it will take even less time to submit bids. And I am by no means counting or relying or using 3l OCI as a safety blanket, its kind of more of using a textbook to protect me from gunfire. Might aswell hold it up in case worst ase scenario happens and then there is like a 1% chance that it will do enough to make it so I dont completely dieAnonymous User wrote:Yeah, but full cray cray doesn't do it at my school. Another week closer to offer decisions. How's everyone feeling as far as their firm's atmosphere? Everything here seems so awesome, with partners/associates/recruiting so cheery. I hope that this is indicative of them continuing their 100% offer rate, but there's still a nagging fear of being blindsided at the end. Neurotic, huh?

Had lunch with the partner I work for this week, and he made reference to finding housing when I come back... Cautious optimism. (V10, CA)

A high level partner track associate got drunk at a function and basically told me I'm slated in to be in his group. Feelsgoodman.
Offers not until 2 weeks after summer program ends so nothing official but stoked for sure.

I know it's a much smaller market, but almost all firms in Alabama (basically all of them are in Birmingham) do splits as well.Anonymous User wrote:It's definitely good for the student. But I still have no idea why only Texas does it this way.
