Re: 2013 UVA OGI Thread
I meant how do my grades in anyway influence my argument that people writing their offers on FB is fair game even if they are getting jobs over me with lower grades? Seems unlikely they're showing off as much as telling someone where they're going to be working. Seems no diff than saying you're going to UVa for law school. Showing off about getting into UVa would suggest one is insecure about penis/cup size, but advertising you're going to be attending UVa seems logical.Anonymous User wrote:Grades matter and pretty good is completely relativeAnonymous User wrote:Pretty good grades, NYC. Re: 2013 UVA OGI Thread
I'm guilty of reading but not posting. In an effort to remedy that here is my list:
Call Backs:
1. Milbank (DC)
2. Troutman Sanders (DC)
3. Nelson Mullins (DC/Columbia, SC/Greenville, SC)
Rejections:
1. Clifford Chance (DC)
2. Cadwalader (DC)
3. Beveridge & Diamond (DC/Baltimore)--Bummerrrrr
4. Wyche (Greenville, SC)- for this one I literally received a PHONE CALL rejection and was told that "at this time" I "would not be able to come in for a call back interview." Very unconventional. This firm is also in my hometown, and I have worked there before. #awkward/horrible
5. Weil, Gotshal & Manges (DC)
6. Patton Boggs (DC)
7. Caplin & Drysdale (DC)
8. K&L Gates (Charleston, SC)
9. Bracewell & Giuliani (DC)--:(
Have not heard anything from:
1. King & Spalding (DC)--though they did email me Wednesday asking for my transcript...weird
2. Axinn, Veltrop & Harkrider (DC)
3. Dechert (Charlotte, NC)
4. Watt, Tieder, Hoffar & Fitzgerald (McLean, VA)
5. McDermott Will & Emery (DC)
6. hogan lovells (McLean, VA)
7. Seward & Kissel (DC/NY)
8. Woods Rogers (Roanoke, VA)
9. Arnall Golden Gregory (Atlanta)
10. Troutman Sanders (Atlanta)
11. Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton (DC)
12. Hollingsworth (DC)
13. motley rice (Charleston, SC)--Presumably moving slower because it is a relatively small Plaintiffs firm in South Carolina.

That's weird about Wyche. I've never heard of that before. Why do you think you got a rejection from them and callbacks in DC? Your grades must be good, you're from the area, and they like UVA. (What were your interviewer's initials?)
Watch out for Nelson Mullins. i have a good friend who interviewed with them and he said they're dicks. Also, a lot of firms that i've spoken to have indicated the same. They didn't say anything impolite/rude but the message that I was getting was that they chew you up and spit you out. For instance, if you don't collect from a client, they deduct a certain amount of money from your paycheck. The hours and bonuses are public. for everyone. So it's really competitive and hostile.
I also spoke to Motley Rice and they said that they're interviewing at all schools before doing callbacks. So it may take a while.
Lastly, i haven't heard from AGG either. I thought my interview went really well. Let's hope they just move more slowly...

Re: 2013 UVA OGI Thread
Received my first offer yesterday from Kilpatrick Townsend (Atlanta office) on August 30, 2013. Kilpatrick was the first callback I got and the first law firm I interviewed onsite.
To tell the truth, I received many ding letters/emails from the firms I interviewed with. When I heard from Kilpatrick Townsend, I could not believe my ears.
As to the OGI process, my lessons/observation are:
1) The brand name of UVA means something at many firms.
2) Be positive, confident, and professional during the callback interview. All they want to know in callback is whether you will fit in with the current team and whether you have enough potential to become a successful lawyer. Make the best argument or presentation that you ARE the one!
3) During the conversation, if possible, find out what the interviewer likes. Then try your best to strike a chord with him/her. For example, I am a runner who runs 10K every other day. When I found that an interviewer is a runner or loves sports (once I saw a pair of running shoes in the office of one interviewer), I would divert the conversation to daily exercise for a moment before going back to the legitimate topics of legal employment. This made the rest of my interview easier than I anticipated.
4) In addition, make every effort to figure out what characteristics the interviewer wants in a candidate. Then present yourself as the best fit for their "ideal" candidate. Some firms may want quick and able hands only. Other may want a business-savvy person. Some may focus on billable hours only. Other may require community outreaching activities. Do your research before hand and do not give the wrong answer to such probing questions during the interview. I learned it the hard way when I inquired about how to cultivate business relationship with new clients during one callback interview but was told that the firm put such responsibility solely on the shoulders of their directors/partners. I have not heard from that firm and I do not expect to work there, either.

Re: 2013 UVA OGI Thread
I'm not a UVA student (though I do attend a peer school) but I like browsing through these threads to find some gems like this. I'll second that this pearl of wisdom is invaluable. Keep your eyes open during the callback interviews and scan the interviewer's office for anything you can use to your advantage. I, too, am a runner. Running and weightlifting are listed under my "interests/hobbies" section on my resume. During an in-office screening interview yesterday, I noticed that my interviewer had a few bibs from various races pinned to a corkboard in the corner of her office. I brought that up and we spent about ten minutes talking about the races we've participated in, carving out time for our workouts, etc. The entire tone of the interview changed immediately and I received the callback invitation before I made it home.Anonymous User wrote: 3) During the conversation, if possible, find out what the interviewer likes. Re: 2013 UVA OGI Thread
I also received my first offer from Kilpatrick Townsend yesterday.
FWIW, I second all the above advice. Be yourself in the callback, and definitely go in confident. The firm wants you--they just want to make sure you are a good fit. If you can connect with people and be normal, that will go a long way. Keep up the efforts everyone!
