Can we go after white & case next? Every firm has its turn on TLS. I'm tired of going after K&E and CWT. Let's talk about how the biggest chads and lowest IQs end up at white & case. :P
W&C associate here. can confirm I am both chad and low iq. may have had higher iq pre biglaw. am not sure of anything anymore.

I think my iq has dropped since I started working in big law. used to be well rounded, curious, and a great party guest. these days, I bore myself.

Baker McKenzie routinely takes 2.x GPAs out of lower T-14s
People at t14's get 2.x GPA's? Isn't that, like, illegal?
You have to really try. At my lower T-14, anything below a flat B was pretty much punitive.
at my T-14 i'm pretty sure baker only takes URMs. career counselor told me not to bother bidding on them because for the past two years they've focused on increasing diversity. hey at least they're walking the walk.

Love that we can downplay this here (humor is my only coping mechanism) but this is one of the aspects of biglaw that depresses me the most. I'm often feeling like I don't know shit about shit outside of finance news. In the tiny bit of free time that I do get, I'm fucking tired and want to lounge or sleep or attend to my partner. Usually too exhausted to expend mental energy on anything that takes effort when I'm not working. It's miserable.

They probably aren't going to during the meeting tomorrow for a host of reasons that make sense but how much do we think they really care about the meeting being firm-wide and staff not getting raises like the attorneys? I don't work at a law firm yet so I'm inquiring more than I am debating. Just seems to me that all meetings at these firms are going to be about the attorneys ultimately, despite agenda items that apply to staff. Are staff likely to really feel slighted by something like this?

Came across this on another forum once and it perfectly describes the good folk of TLS

"First: although biglaw lawyers are very smart and logical, they are all about their own personal money. Me coming out of ten years in the nonprofit world, I was amazed that such smart people were dedicating all those brains solely to their personal wealth, with no desire to spread in out to apply it to greater causes."

Screw that attitude. People care about money everywhere. Nobody says no thanks to a raise.

My job is a job. Idk what great causes you think I should be involved in, but the vast majority of people just go about their lives living for themselves. I donate to charity and am part of a community, that's enough for me.

It was more of a lighthearted post poking fun at the people (myself included) in this thread that are rightfully concerned about when their firms will announce a raise. It's not that deep.

I always thought it was kind of cool that CWT is the oldest law firm in the country (or is it just NYC?)

There’s some little PA firm (iirc) that’s a few years older, so technically second-oldest in the U.S. and oldest in NY. Agree it’s actually pretty cool, seems like a missed opportunity that they’re not able to generate some more prestige out of it (as far as the marginal prestige differences between V10 and V50 go, I guess)

This website claims it's a Philly firm called Rawle Henderson, est 1783. https://usabynumbers.com/oldest-law-firms-in-the-us/

I'm sure in Japan there's a law firm that also makes electronics that dates to a fabric trade group from the 1500s.

According to a friend at NW, Sidley Austin took this guy. Not that you can't tell from his profile but his GPA was not above median.

It's also really cool how some firms have names of actual famous people. Davis of Davis Polk was the Dem nominee in 1924. Willkie of Willkie Farr was the R nominee in 1940.

Torys (a major firm in Toronto) is named after its founder John Tory, who is the father of Toronto mayor John story (and who is the son of yet another John Tory).

More interesting: Keanu Reeves is the grandson of tommy Douglas, who is basically the guy who brought Canada public healthcare.

I know that no one reading this cares about any of these fun facts.

Broke: Cadwalader is full of morons.

Woke: Kramer Levin is full of morons.

Bespoke: They’re all full of morons. Especially Cravath.

And, if a Cravath bro or broette is reading this: it’s not because we’re afraid of you. I sincerely get happy when you’re on the other side of the v. because y’all have a tendency to utterly fuck up cases.

Is John Tory a Tory?

Herzog, Fox & Ne'eman is the biggest law firm in Israel. It is named for Chaim Herzog, later president of Israel, and father of the current president of Israel, Isaac Herzog. Ne'eman was finance and justice minister.
