I picked up an interview with Wachtell that I bid very low. I don't realistically have any shot at Wachtell - no work experience, no LR, not a high-stone/kent. Should I drop them?

I mean, you're going to be in the building anyway right? Assuming that's actually a place you want to work, and you don't think prepping for the interview will negatively affect the others, stranger things have happened and you should keep it. With the number of interviews they do, anyone who has the stats who wanted to work there probably already bid them, so don't feel like you need to drop out for someone else's sake.Anonymous User wrote:I picked up an interview with Wachtell that I bid very low. Re: Columbia EIP 2014
Do NYC firms respond to mass mailing, or is it generally a secondary market thing? If we're deadset on NYC, is TCR to mass mail lower tiered firms that are more likely to respond to mass mailed applications, and hit up the larger firms at their hospitality suites at EIP?

Re: Columbia EIP 2014
I got a number of bites from V30 NYC firms via mass mail. Unless you missed out on a screener via bidding (in which case, definitely email the recruiters), its probably way late to mail the firms that will be at EIP. That said, the hospitality suites will probably be decent places to snag spare screeners or drop a resume hoping for a random callback.Anonymous User wrote:Do NYC firms respond to mass mailing, or is it generally a secondary market thing? Re: Columbia EIP 2014
What's the ethical way to approach firms (pre-EIP), that we couldn't fit on our bidlist but that we want to hit up for an EIP screener? Can we say something like "I was unable to obtain an interview via the bidding process but I love you for xyz reasons and want a screener" or is that dishonest?Anonymous User wrote:I got a number of bites from V30 NYC firms via mass mail. Re: Columbia EIP 2014
That phrasing sounds good. Implies you bid them without actually committing to the falsehood. However, I would instead say "would like to come in to interview." I went with that for my mass mails to suggest I wanted to come into the office (i.e. a callback), but that was a month ago. I'm not sure if the different timeline will make firms less likely to go MM->Callback.Anonymous User wrote:What's the ethical way to approach firms (pre-EIP), that we couldn't fit on our bidlist but that we want to hit up for an EIP screener? Motherfuckers. I picked up an interview with a firm that I massmailed yesterday saying that I bid on them and couldn't get an interview. How much of an idiot does this make me look like?

Not much. I mean, you probably should have waited the extra 24hrs to be sure, but you don't come off looking bad.Anonymous User wrote:Motherfuckers. Definitely email again, otherwise they may get frustrated if they're massaging schedules only to find out later that it was unnecessary effort.Anonymous User wrote:Should I follow up with the recruiter to be like jk disregard, or leave it?

Those interviews went fast as fuck. I feel like people couldn't have been able to add more than 1-2 (edit: In NY).

Added 4 in NY but a ton in LA/SF. I had very few screeners to begin with so I had a lot of room to add more.

Shoot, I accidentally used my California resume for a NY firm, in the mad scramble to add. Its differences are the "permanent address" in CA and also the addition of "California Society" as a group. How bad is this? Should I try to get OCS to let me change it?

NY firms don't care about ties. They assume everyone wants to be there (which couldn't be further from the truth. We just go where the jerbs are).Anonymous User wrote:Shoot, I accidentally used my California resume for a NY firm, in the mad scramble to add. OCS will give you hell. But they'll do it if you think it's really important.Anonymous User wrote:Shoot, I accidentally used my California resume for a NY firm, in the mad scramble to add. this isn't entirely true. you get a strong presumption attending Columbia, but it's not 100%Anonymous User wrote:NY firms don't care about ties. College in CA, permanent address in CA, college jobs in CA. I think I'm going to ask, just in case it's possible. Should I just contact the counselor I last me with, or is there a go-to person?Anonymous User wrote:OCS will give you hell. I would contact the simplicity manager, Loverly Espinal. I don't think your adviser has that capabilityAnonymous User wrote:College in CA, permanent address in CA, college jobs in CA.
