What do you do when you have no work as an SA?

I feel like I should be using my time more productively, but I don't know how...

(I have asked for new work--just haven't gotten the assignment yet from the project coordinator)

I fucked around on the internet and listened to music/podcasts.

I did this today when the strokes dropped their new singles. worth it.

highly doubt I will be getting an assignment in the 3 hours we are expected to be at work tomorrow, kind of annoyed that I have to wake up and go all the way to work for now reason =\

It kind of sucks being the one SA from a low-ranked school. At every SA event partners ask us which law school we're from, and after I tell them they immediately pass on from me to ooh-ahh or bond over the Ivy League/T-14 credentials of my fellow SAs. I know it doesn't matter in the long run, but eh.

That's a bummer dude. I'm in the same situation as you but I don't feel anyone looks down on me at all. If anything they respect that I'm there and just treat me like an equal. If anyone does look down on me they're doing it behind my back lol.

Maybe try emailing some alumni who are at the firm from your school and try and connect with them. They are usually super down to chat/help.

I billed 10 hours today and the day felt so short. I got into work at 7 and worked on a project and the next thing I know it's time to go to lunch, then when I get back i work and the next thing I know it's 5 and the rest of the summers are headed home and I decided to stay so I could finish up the memo I had been working on. I finished it up at 8.

As of today, I'm firmly in the "too much work" camp. But there's a lot of pressure from the firm to not work late, especially for memorial day weekend, so I have no clue how I'm going to get this assignment done. It's research related to an early June filing, so the assignment really does need to get done. There's also simultaneous pressure to attend all our social events (I'm literally lunch hopping tomorrow as a result of this) - I can't even tell if I'm at a working firm or a partying firm this summer. Yikes.

do they give you guys a time estimate for how long the research should take? Also stay late if you have to but don't skip out on any social events.

I think I'm going to work from home - just want to make some headway on an assignment that's due Tuesday. I hit a breakthrough today but I still have a ways to go, plus my summer class has some mandatory trainings on Tuesday so I can't spend the whole day working.

Really? T-14 student here, my officemate is from a very low ranked local school and she intimidates the shit out of me. She's fucking brilliant and in the top 1% of her class, law review, crazy work ex and she's fucking nice, pretty and fun to boot. She is perfection =)

Yeah, seriously, people from lower tier schools who made it to biglaw shouldn't be worried about inadequacy at all. Getting in despite where you go to school is pretty huge. It's not like school brand or some shit like that is going to matter when it comes to offers at the end of the summer.
