What's being a weirdo about? I was told someone the year before me got no-offered for that, among other reasons. We've got a class with some quiet people, but what do you have to do to stand out like that?

Going beltless your first day is a good start. Sitting in your office until 3 am on your first day typing away feverishly for a throwaway assignment that isn't that hard to begin with is another. My personal downfall will be an established pattern of not saying "good, and yours?" when appropriate and misusing it to questions that don't warrant a "good, and yours?" response.

It kind of sucks being the one SA from a low-ranked school. At every SA event partners ask us which law school we're from, and after I tell them they immediately pass on from me to ooh-ahh or bond over the Ivy League/T-14 credentials of my fellow SAs. I know it doesn't matter in the long run, but eh.

Just lol at anyone noticing or caring. Can you even see the belt with a suit jacket on? ~oh no~, this summer wore a navy tie with a black suit, guess we're no-offering him.pancakes3 wrote:Going beltless your first day is a good start.

Is anyone else overwhelmed with work already? I'm on my 2nd day and already drowning in work ( been in office for over 14 hours today). I have this partner who keeps throwing me one assignment after another, even ones that are completely unrelated to corporate work. I'm like the only summer who is still in office at 10:30 on a Thursday night because he keeps emailing individual questions every 20 min about something I drafted, then tell me my way was right. Is it rude for me to leave now and just deal with this tomorrow morning?

What are thoughts for splitting summers and offer rates? Specifically for Northern markets (NY/DC or Chicago/SF split) at a V10.

What do you do when you have no work as an SA?
I feel like I should be using my time more productively, but I don't know how...
(I have asked for new work--just haven't gotten the assignment yet from the project coordinator)

If you clicked with particular associate(s) at firm events, you could try asking them if they have something for you to do.Anonymous User wrote:What do you do when you have no work as an SA?

That's a bummer dude. I'm in the same situation as you but I don't feel anyone looks down on me at all. If anything they respect that I'm there and just treat me like an equal. If anyone does look down on me they're doing it behind my back lol.
Maybe try emailing some alumni who are at the firm from your school and try and connect with them. They are usually super down to chat/help.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
As of today, I'm firmly in the "too much work" camp. But there's a lot of pressure from the firm to not work late, especially for memorial day weekend, so I have no clue how I'm going to get this assignment done. It's research related to an early June filing, so the assignment really does need to get done. There's also simultaneous pressure to attend all our social events (I'm literally lunch hopping tomorrow as a result of this) - I can't even tell if I'm at a working firm or a partying firm this summer. Yikes.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
People would get teased for staying too late as a summer, but just ignore that if you actually have a time sensitive assignment. Usually there isn't anything time sensitive enough to cause a summer to stay late, but if there is, you have to do what it takes to finish it on time. Telling a partner you blew a deadline because some associate or even another partner said to not stick around too late is obviously a bad look.Slytherpuff wrote:As of today, I'm firmly in the "too much work" camp. Really? T-14 student here, my officemate is from a very low ranked local school and she intimidates the shit out of me. She's fucking brilliant and in the top 1% of her class, law review, crazy work ex and she's fucking nice, pretty and fun to boot. She is perfection =)Anonymous User wrote:It kind of sucks being the one SA from a low-ranked school.
