Unless you're willing to share what you actually said, we're not going to be able to put your mind at ease. I mean, if you said something really inappropriate, then of course it could jeopardize your offer. But I'm guessing--and I can only guess--that what you said isn't as bad as you're imagining.Anonymous User wrote: Let's say the partner is a hiring partner... and that the misunderstanding is not related to a joke.. do you still think it wont matter? this whole thing is not allowing me to enjoy the summer

What's the rush? I'd rather wait and get to meet more people than do a series of 2-3 ppl sadsack hangouts.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2015: Get on In
I'm the only summer in a satelite office, and I'm really working for one group only. I turned in a memo today that was well written to the partner, and he calls me in an hour later. The issue was a simple one. and I pretty exhaustively researched it in the one jurisdiction in which it mattered.
Him: How could you possibly be done?
Me: Explain what I found
Him: Actually start reading aloud random paragraphs from my memo to prove I'm wrong. Finish reading paragraph, see that I addressed issue
Him: Ask for comprehensive memo on entire subject of law.
He's too busy to actually read the shit he assigns me, so I've been going around in this circle for 3 weeks. I think he thinks I'm incompetent.
Fuck this shit

I experienced this during my 1L summer quite often. Just smile and roll w the punches... explaining to the partner that they are wrong probably is impossibleAnonymous User wrote:I'm the only summer in a satelite office, and I'm really working for one group only. I smiled, nodded, said I was probably wrong, and then stayed late to make up for the stupid.
but you know what, I'm just gonna start downloading sheppards reports for every fucking thing I submit.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2015: Get on In
Turned in some work product that was admittedly not so good today. I got attacked by a bunch of other assignments right when I had planned to sit down and crank it out, but couldn't push back the deadline because it was assigned a good bit ago. Ended up cranking it out undergrad paper style right up until the deadline, and what I turned in was meh quality. What should I do? I feel like I've done well on everything else, but then this happened today.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2015: Get on In
It's a little late now, but here's what you do next time this happens: if you really don't have time to do an adequate job on something because of competing demands, call the person who assigned you the task and explain the situation. They'll probably tell you that you can turn it in later. If they instead tell you it's a hard deadline, explain the state of your research and say that you're not going to be able to produce a comprehensive memo--ask if there is something particularly important to focus on.Anonymous User wrote:Turned in some work product that was admittedly not so good today. The key thing is to avoid turning in shitty work product. There are basically two ways to get no offered: (1) massive social awkwardness/inappropriateness, or (2) really bad writing. If your other assignments are of decent quality, you're probably fine, but don't let (2) happen again.

Perhaps the partner is annoyed because of your confusion about his or her gender.Anonymous User wrote:I'm the only summer in a satelite office, and I'm really working for one group only. Seriously, if your story is accurate, the partner sounds horrible. Try to get out of that group.

Ouch.Cicero76 wrote:Today is Friday. I left at 6:15. I was the first to leave.
At 5:45 the partner in the office next to mine left and said goodnight and that I should go have a nice weekend. At 6:05 the associate down the hall came by and asked what I was still doing in the office, past 6 on a friday. So at 6:10 I left.
Other days it's been not before 6:30, unless theres an earlier event

Maybe it's just the number of cases I'm on, but I'm usually out 6ish, 7 on the outside and 5:30 if I really have nothing to do.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2015: Get on In
I probably average a 6:30 departure. On the early side compared to the other summers at the firm I think. But that's a silly metric.
On a different note, I think I got the withholding right for fed taxes. That NYC tax though.
