Re: 1L Summer Job Search C/O 2017
Grades came back and seeking a little insight:
T14 student. Finished just below median. Have a few callbacks waiting for me to send over grades. Also have an offer from USAO/Judicial internship, not contingent on grades. Is it worth while to accept one of the offers I have now and save face with the firms and tell them I have accepted another offer so I only have to send them my grades for OCI? Or should I just send them over now and see what they say?

That's unfortunate, because that sounds awesome. I'd hire that person immediately.Anonymous User wrote:If you get the job, don't jump off roofs into pools. just send grades, imo. best case they still hire you, worst they don't. they probably aren't going to blacklist you for OCI. besides they see 2 semesters grades during OCI (assuming you need to provide transcripts) so they're presumably gonna know your first semester grades weren't great anyway, right?Anonymous User wrote:Grades came back and seeking a little insight:

IMO them telling you thanks but no thanks is probably significantly better than you telling them thanks but no thanks, especially considering you went on callbacks already

Cool! Thanks guys! Same apply for no callback, but a simple request for grades?BigZuck wrote:AgreeKratos wrote:just send grades, imo. best case they still hire you, worst they don't. they probably aren't going to blacklist you for OCI. besides they see 2 semesters grades during OCI (assuming you need to provide transcripts) so they're presumably gonna know your first semester grades weren't great anyway, right?Anonymous User wrote:Grades came back and seeking a little insight:

I'd say yes, same deal. I don't think telling them no is a great idea, don't really see any downside in making them tell you no eitherAnonymous User wrote:Cool! Thanks guys! Anyone else feel like these screener interviews where they are interviewing 25 people in 20 min slots (and then the same in 10 other schools too) just to fill 2 summer associate positions are ridiculous? My interview was fun and i thought I did a great job but it feels futile, like they didn't even look serious.

On this note, how many people do firms generally bring in for callbacks for 1L SAs?BigZuck wrote:http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 3&t=161018Anonymous User wrote:Anyone else feel like these screener interviews where they are interviewing 25 people in 20 min slots (and then the same in 10 other schools too) just to fill 2 summer associate positions are ridiculous? Radio silence until they called me.

My 1L year (2 years ago), Baker & McKenzie Dallas brought in 8 for one slot, but they didn't do screeners, for what that's worth.Anonymous User wrote:On this note, how many people do firms generally bring in for callbacks for 1L SAs?BigZuck wrote:http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 3&t=161018Anonymous User wrote:Anyone else feel like these screener interviews where they are interviewing 25 people in 20 min slots (and then the same in 10 other schools too) just to fill 2 summer associate positions are ridiculous? Re: 1L Summer Job Search C/O 2017
seeking advice: i received a callback for a 1L SA position before grades came back and after I got my grades I know that I am rather below their GPA requirement. I am planning on still doing the interview but should I add a cover sheet or something to my transcript. What can/should I say to firms to make my grades less of an issue or to best position myself?

I got a call from a firm in a largish market on the east coast this afternoon, rejecting me for a 1L job. But they called to say they want to make sure they keep in touch with me, as they will definitely be interested for my 2L year. Is this a relatively uncommon practice? I know I'm probably reading tea leaves but w/e

I'd make it clear that you want to improve your writing and that's why you want to intern with a judge. Maybe also ask the kinds of things you will be working on because some chambers have their interns write an entire opinion while others do smaller projects or pieces of an opinion.Anonymous User wrote:Have a judicial internship interview Monday. Other than that, just want you expect.
