This is anon abuse. Might not be the same person though.Anonymous User wrote:lol
Like, if it's your job to do something, and your job requires you to make and answer phone calls regularly, is it that far of a stretch to say that you should probably not miss every call?

I know of 4 offers total for the Houston office, one was from the BB UT OCI, two were from interviews in the office over break, and I'm unsure about the 4thAnonymous User wrote:I know they've been going out for at least a week.Anonymous User wrote:Anybody heard of any offers from BB Houston?

I mean people miss phone calls, that's not fair. In my actual job I've been playing phone tag with someone for a week and a half now. I don't think either of us are being unprofessional we're just having trouble connecting. But i'm assuming you have left a message so they know they missed you and they could be more proactive with calling you back.PeanutsNJam wrote:This is anon abuse. In a vacuum I wouldn't call it unprofessional, I was just responding to Anon's criticism of me.

Then I'm sorry. Didn't know that, and it's a stressful time for all.Wahrheit wrote:Anon abuse is using the anon feature to rip on someone. Like you're doing now.Anonymous User wrote:Not entirely sure how that's anon abuse when I'm just providing a personal example to help you feel better about the fact that you're (speaking generally to most 1Ls) not a firm's #1 priority, but if you're going to flip out and be neurotic about it then more power to you man.PeanutsNJam wrote:lolAnonymous User wrote:Pretty sure you crossed the line of socially/professionally acceptable behavior. If they log your calls and find out you called at least 4 times and emailed, that can't look good. Might be desperate even (and in an industry where you can get knocked in hiring for any trivial thing depending on the interviewer you get, it's important to walk the line, so to speak).
Just call once, leave a voicemail, and wait at least a week. I've been scheduling a meeting with a firm for just about a month now. Gave them my schedule, and they update me with on my progress every 6-8 days. Friday to Tuesday is nothing, especially for 1L hiring being so low on the totem pole according to TLS.
Nice anon abuse btw.
@peanuts: Didn't mean to come off as harsh or to be rude in any way and in any post, and the lol was laughing because I legitimately thought what you said was funny not because I was laughing at you. Easy to get confused over the internet, I guess.
Good luck man.

Re: 1L Summer Job Search C/O 2018
Lol, just call, leave your name and number, then state the general days that you're available. I've done this with 2 recruiters that I called back and both emailed me the next day with their morning/afternoon availability for the days I mentioned. It's a bit anecdotal, but it generally works without irritating anyone, and you should get a response within the week!PeanutsNJam wrote:Anybody ever encounter a recruiter that is impossible to reach? I get a call in class for a callback on Friday. I call back right as I get out of class - voicemail. I call the following Monday morning - voicemail. I call that afternoon - voicemail. I call just now - voicemail. I'm trying to avoid leaving a 5 min long voicemail where I delineate my entire schedule and availability. Just gonna email her.

Just a condescending note that wrt your poll, you aren't accepting clerkships, you're accepting judicial internships.

Does this stem from the line of thinking that there is just too much chance of a mistake/typo or that it's an outdated practice? Curious because I've heard so many conflicting thoughts on thank yousBigZuck wrote:Friendly reminder BUMPBigZuck wrote:no thank yous ever

Yeah basically there just doesn't seem to really be any upside. I've seen practicing attorneys on here openly complain about getting them (or at best, they don't care). No upside with the possible downside of maybe misspelling a name or sending it to the wrong person or whatever is enough for me to say don't do it.Anonymous User wrote:Does this stem from the line of thinking that there is just too much chance of a mistake/typo or that it's an outdated practice? Also, this is super anecdotal but I interviewed in some of the more genteel markets and it seemed to not make any difference with anyone I know, but obviously that doesn't really mean anything.
Honestly, I could maybe see doing it if you made some sort of real connection with someone or if it's like a really old judge who might want that personal touch or something. I just assume that most TLSers would send thank yous in a hamfisted/gunnery/awkward way so that's why I say don't bother.
If you can pull it off appropriately then knock yourself out I guess.

I dunno man, I just send a quick two liner after an interview, the risk of someone finding that annoying seems lower than the risk of someone thinking I don't know proper etiquette for this shit, but I doubt most people will care either wayBigZuck wrote:Yeah basically there just doesn't seem to really be any upside. I have a sense that post-interview thank yous are more useful/expected in public sector than private, but might be more a function of the number and interviews and structure of the process.Hand wrote:I dunno man, I just send a quick two liner after an interview, the risk of someone finding that annoying seems lower than the risk of someone thinking I don't know proper etiquette for this shit, but I doubt most people will care either wayBigZuck wrote:Yeah basically there just doesn't seem to really be any upside. By the way, to whomever was asking about DOJ ENRD, the interview I knew of became an offer, apparently last week.

Are DC judges no longer looking for interns? I sent out 80+ apps last week (because I'm a procrastinator.) I don't expect to get any calls because I heard DC is competitive. Does anyone here actually know?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
