me too. reading other schools' oci threads, it appears that many NY firms have already made a lot of offers and had made a lot of offers before we even had oci, so wondering if our later oci is still hurting us.Samsing wrote:Definitely, I barely scraped by with a couple and I bid almost straight NY with median grades.Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, I got the impression NY was a lot tougher this year than people made it out to be...Anonymous User wrote:Bid New York as a safety they said, lmao, completely out at New York.

There is still a large amount of Chicago firms that no one has confirmed callbacks for ITT....DLA Piper, Barack, McGuire Woods, Ropes, Dentons, Reed Smith, Baker McKenzie, Pircher Nichols, Taft, Chapman, Foley, Bryan Cave, K&L Gates (& probably others that I'm missing)..... Anyone?

Whether tougher than normal, it's still, by far, the easiest market to crack.Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, I got the impression NY was a lot tougher this year than people made it out to be...Anonymous User wrote:Bid New York as a safety they said, lmao, completely out at New York.

FWIW, I'm below median, bid mostly New York and some Chicago, and have several Chicago callbacks but close to striking out for New York.WheninLaw wrote:Whether tougher than normal, it's still, by far, the easiest market to crack.Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, I got the impression NY was a lot tougher this year than people made it out to be...Anonymous User wrote:Bid New York as a safety they said, lmao, completely out at New York.

Re: UChicago OCI 2015
Does close to striking out mean you have some NYC callbacks, or have you just not heard from some either way? Because if you have a few Chicago and a few NYC callbacks from below median that's more probative of you doing very well at OCI rather than NYC being a tough market.Anonymous User wrote:FWIW, I'm below median, bid mostly New York and some Chicago, and have several Chicago callbacks but close to striking out for New York.WheninLaw wrote:Whether tougher than normal, it's still, by far, the easiest market to crack.Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, I got the impression NY was a lot tougher this year than people made it out to be...Anonymous User wrote:Bid New York as a safety they said, lmao, completely out at New York.
And I would be careful making general statements about any market being below median. Your results are going to be much more scattershot than others. I wouldn't want anyone to think NYC is a bad bet in the future.

Re: UChicago OCI 2015
Also remember that only the top NY firms come to OCI. You get all types of Chicago firms here. If you applied to more NY firms than the V25 outside OCI you'd be slaughtering it. Top firms in NY are significantly easier to get than top firms in ChiWedge Antilles wrote:Does close to striking out mean you have some NYC callbacks, or have you just not heard from some either way? I don't want to argue with people who are likely just venting, but I really hope future 2Ls don't start thinking that Chicago is easier than NY. Maybe this is a conversation we save until after OCI, though. I don't want to kick people when they are down.
If you're struggling but have a callback or two, PM me and I'll do my best to prep you.
